Santa’s Little Helper aged in Jim Beam barrels for three years. This high gravity triple bock is finished with a second pitching of ale yeast and 1.5 pounds of cherries per gallon. Crisp lager notes blended with big cherry, bourbon, and vanilla flavors and aromas. Color is dark red. This one will make Rudolf fly.

Draft. Rich amber beer with a light tan head. Vanilla, oak, dark malt, and bourbon aroma. Bourbon flavor with light vanilla and some cherries. Slightly lighter bodied than expected. LIngering caramel and bourbon with a bit of fruitiness. Expected more cherry.

A bronzed body approaches mahogany, mostly flat in appearance. Fruity, sweet/tart nose. Cherry-sweet flavor with a pit-like bitter finish. Liqueured chocolate covered cherry lingers. Mild, spicy carbonation in the mouth provides a pleasant fluffiness and leads to a dry finish.

Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a transparent copper bronze with a wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramely complex bourbon with a nice raisin and brown sugar complexity. Body starts fairly rich and caramely sweet with a good balance of bourbon and a touch of tart cherries toward a full, sweet and tart sticky caramel finish. A nicely balanced unique brew.

This poured a dark brown highlighted in red with almost no head. It held an aroma of Bourbon, chocolate, sweet red cherries, and lightly roasted dark malt. Considering the style and the cherries, this didn’t get overpoweringly sweet, perhaps because of all the alcohol. Tasty and chocolatey like a dark malty pudding with sweet cherries sprinkled over with Bourbon. Not too shabby.

Tasted on tap at the 2007 Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. The bock poured a medium amber color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is caramel, vanilla and cherries. A medium bodied “Triple bock”. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. Lots of bourbon and chocolate flavors and well as cherries. Nice balanced. Very smooth. Hides the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

On tap at FoBAB 5. This beer poured a dark brown color with a minimal tan head. The aroma of the brew consisted of roasted malts, chocolate, and marichino cherries. The flavor contained light chocolate notes with a lasting, sweet cherry finish. The bourbon was very restrained. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with a good dose of carbonation. An interesting, flavorful brew. Works for me!
