Commercial Description:
Our award winning oak aged oatmeal stout is specially aged in used oak barrels acquired straight from the Jim Beam distillery in Kentucky. The barrels impart flavors of vanilla, bourbon, coconut, chocolate, and more. Served nitrogenated for that extra smooth mouth feel. This Bordeaux of beers goes great with a wide assortment of meats, rich pasta dishes, and desserts.

Tap: Impressive stout! Dark black with a light brown head. It has a sweet whiskey and mild coconut aroma. Sweet rich flavors of cola and chocolaty malts. It’s tangy and lively, yet with fragile carbonation. Quite good!

Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest, 5.6% abv: Mostly opaque dark mahogany pour has a well-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and doughy yeasty notes with big bourbon complexity and some nice dark fruity character. Body starts fairly full and earthy dark caramel and chocolatey sweet with a drier, toasty, slightly warming finish. A very nicely balanced and enjoyable BA stout.

Draft at the Bistro BA Fest 07. Murky brown pour with no head. Sharp bourbon aromas with sugar notes. Thin and woody with bourbon.

FoBAB 06: Deep brown with ruby highlights and minimal head. The aroma is noted with oak and booze at first before a nice vapor of chocolate, toasted malt, and oat come about. The taste starts malty and mostly stays than way with a rich sweet taste supported by a earthy and woody finish, the bourbon worked upon the aftertaste and cleans the palate. The body is too thin for an oatmeal stout, isn’t that the point of the oats? A good brew overall.

On Tap at the Goose Island Wriglyville Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers November 4th, 2006.

Dark dark black but clear with no real head. Nose is thin, oaky and alcoholy. The taste is mostly malts but a strong backbone of alcohol and vanilla. Stong bourbon presence.

FoBAB 2006. Certainly one of the chewier and sweeter stouts of the day. Notes of molasses and roasted oats on the nose lead into brownie and soy sauce. Solid, not overwhelming, but very drinkable. Good bourbon finish.
