Amber coloured. Dusty nose. Very sweet and alcoholic. Slightly fruity. Not very complex.

Caramel taste with the alcohol not too upfront, nutty aroma, not very inspiring and I don't think I will return to it.

I think Silktork said it all best about this one. I have to give it a solid 4 for appearance cause of the shiny gold 275ml can. oufff this is alcoholic and sweaty. overwhelming caramel and sickly pawpaw. Despite all the sweetness it also manages to be really watery. Finishes metallic with an apologetic bitterness. Drainpour, but a cool one.

Nuts and toffee aroma, some cardboard and faint paw paw when it warms but really lacking the fruitiness of a good BW. Really high carbonation with not much malt. Soap and a harshly bitter and alcoholic finish. Headache inducing. Really ordinary.

Pours a dark orange body with an OK head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, raisins, cookies and lots of alcohol! Flavor is quite full though still thin on the palate. Malty and alcoholic and not very complex.

An amber beer with a fine head. The aroma is dominated by alcohol and sweet malt with hints caramel and raisins. The flavor is very simple of sweet malt, alcohol, and plums. It has a very dry end.

Caramel and mango aroma. Full bodied. Sweet, somewhat buttery. The alcohol is all around. Fruity flavor (mango and peach) and a hint of cherry. Nice barley wine, fairly well balanced.

Heaven's to Betsy, this is an experience. Beautifully musty, cellar aroma, with a very very strong essence of an old cork pulled out of a bottle. My bottle, drank in 2003, said "Best Before 01"--I cannot imagine they meant this. The alcohol is all over the place--down my throat, up my nose, creating a few ulcers in the stomach, and no doubt tomorrow morning getting its last farewell in on its way out. Is it even worth mentioning its appearance (hint of yellow at the edges)? Late off-flavors. So unbalanced. It just doesn't deserve to be on a "classic" list or list of "beers you must try" regardless of whatever privileged status it has within its particular cultural setting.
