BlackForestCO (549), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle shared by mentor, thanks man. Poured a clear golden-amber color with a thin off-white head that faded to a ring. Slightly sweet, piny hop aroma with some garlic-like spice. Smooth, lightly sweet entry abruptly transfers into an earthy, moderately bitter hop hit with some leafy flavor and some light pine resin rounding out a moderately bitter finish. Moderate hop bitterness, lacking a bit of carbonation.
Aubrey (2614), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 19, 2008 Mostly clear with an orange color. Weak head. Moderate carbonation. Lightish body. Big citrus (orange and lemon) right from the beginning. Some sourness and a little bitterness followed. Cracker-like malt flavors lacked sweetness. Lackluster hop flavors and aromas were one dimensional and boring. acrdz (4373), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 17, 2008 Updated: Sep 27, 2008Draft at the brewery, extremely fresh sample, there’s a huge, vibrant pugency, the dry-hopping is extremely wet, green and fresh, and the hop aroma is full of sharp garlic and pine. Mouthfeel is solid, bitterness is appropriately sharp, and hop flavors center around dry pine wood, green vegetal honey and catty garlic. Very good stuff fresh from the brewery. Solid IPA.
Bottle. Apple juice color, light haze but obviously filtered. Heavy diacetyl in the nose, comes across as butter-heavy apple cider. Frothy and full up front, dissolves quickly, has some sour mashed apples, heavy butter, light acidity, ugh, terrible, very difficult to drink. I was told that the infection problems in the bottling line was fixed. This bottle got a 1.9 but was obviously not as the brewer intended. Ernest (4250), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 7, 2008 Bottle.
Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, fully diminishing.
Body is clear light amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), lightly yeasty (dough, sweat).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
One dimensional, virtually no head, watery, citric, and seems boozier than it is. Not impressed. Crosling (1660), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jul 6, 2008 Golden/bronze color with a small ring of foam. Pure and raw hop smell. Quite a bit of pine and spruce, as well as some herbaceousnes and medicinal qualities from the hops in the nose. Flavor is dominated by hop character. Super hoppy in the flavor with a blend of oily and raw hops with pine-like notes. It’s got a great hop character to it. I wish it were a little more grapefruit-like and citrusy, with a little more malt character. But as it is right now, its has a really nice authenticity and dryness, with a really impressive hop character. Overall, it’s quite good.
