stchloe (96), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 31, 2008 Its not the Quercus, this beer gains most of its tastiness from the oak barrel. Still though a pretty red ale with just that right hint of toasted barley. SDbruboy (1821), San Diego, California, USA Apr 10, 2007 12 oz. bottle from Fred Meyer in Newberg, OR. Pours deep reddish-mahogany color with a moderate sized, somewhat foamy beige head. Aroma is almost all malts, toasty, toffee, molasses and earth, with mild fresh herb notes. Flavor is rich and bitter sweet, some bitterness from the roast malts, as well as herbal bitterness from the generous hop additions, more earthiness, ripe fruit notes, and a toasty finish. Medium to medium-full body and gently prickly carbonation. A nice change of pace in terms of Northwest brews and as I see muenster has pointed out, potentially a nice session beer.
