| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Sampled at the MCBF. Pours amber with a good retentive off white head. Aroma of faint fruity esters and citrusy hops. Flavor of pale toffee-esque malts, rye, and subtle hops. I found everything to be a bit melded and mild. I prefer just a bit more hop characteristics in my RIPAs. Butters (1653), Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Sampled on draft at the Music City Brewers Festival. Pours a clear amber with fair light tan head. Nose of fruity and piney hops follows in the flavor, but only adds a birt of rye which is nice. The hops are too overpowering though. A - A clear amber color with a nice head and fantastic sticky lacing all the way down the glass.
S - Big hop aromas dominate the smell. Earthy, spicy, with slight citrus aroma.
T - Rye spiciness is very prevalent but the hops take over the flavor and leave with nice bitterness. Very enjoyable and distinct hops flavor.
M - Very nice mouthfeel and appropriate for the style. Right in the middle....not watery, substantial but not too viscous.
D - Very drinkable and sessionable beer. I really enjoyed this one.
A unique beer which is done very well. Plenty of rye but definitely plenty of hops and bitterness to be properly classified as an IPA.
