Commercial Description:
As we prepare to celebrate our 20th Anniversary here at the original Lincoln Park Brewery, our pub brewer came up with this “bittersweet” ESB to commemorate the occasion. Malt sweetness and copper color come from Crystal and Cara aroma, while the lingering bitterness comes from Chinook hops. It was dry-hopped in the fermenter with Willamette and Crystal, and in the bright tank with Kent Golding and Willamette for the floral hop contribution.

Dark Amber. Nose is toasty and hoppy. Taste is very grainy, lots of crystal malt character coming through. Lots of body as a result. Interesting beer that takes on more of the malt character than usual due to underattenuation. interesting and very drinkable, though not particular "Belgian" in character.

Sample at Clybourn. Aroma was very strong and downright delicious. Flavor was similar to the aroma; a balance of caramel, fruit and flowers. Found it good to very good for the style.

On Cask at GI Clybourn....pours a hazy dary amber brown with a milky slightly off-white head.... aroma of subdued earthy, grassy hops and biscuity malts.... flavors were earthy and grassy muted hops with a little malt to back things up. extremely smooth and creamy. very drinkable and goes down easy. really likes the palate on the cask ale..... not sure if there is a substantial difference between the cask version versus the regular tap version.

A particularly surprising ale. A very strong hop scent. The Beer is a nice amber color with a big fat head. I love the taste, it is so intensley hoppy, but so nice and fruity with some good malt sweetness, a triumph in balance.

Draft at Clybourn. Pours a copper amber with yellow hues. Aroma is caramel, some bitter hoppiness. Drinks like a weak malty ipa. Nothing special here.

Tasted 4/30/08. Cask conditioned draft from the Clybourne brewpub. Filtered with a dark ruby hue. Toasty rye bready nose. Muted hops. Muted effervescence. Smooth sticky and crisp. On the fuller side of medium bodied. Good hop palate. So smooth. It has an almost smokey quality. Nice bitter hop finish. Totally tasty! One of my favorites from this visit.

Had a few of these on tap and was more impressed than i expected. For an ESB this had a very american hop feel to it, which is a great thing and definitely not a detraction. Overall a great brew and felt like a mix between a very good ESB and a mild IPA.

Nice. It poured a hazy copper body with a lofty off-white head that coated the glass heavily with lace. It had a floral, earthy nose along with some caramel and toast. That caramel turns a bit dusty in the flavor, perhaps because of the increase in the hoppy bitterness, still floral but accompanied by a sharp citric bite. The finish is a moderate, prolonged bitterness. Good stuff.
Happy 20th Anniversary, GI-Cly! I wish you could be with us another score of years.
