Commercial Description:
As we prepare to celebrate our 20th Anniversary here at the original Lincoln Park Brewery, our pub brewer came up with this “bittersweet” ESB to commemorate the occasion. Malt sweetness and copper color come from Crystal and Cara aroma, while the lingering bitterness comes from Chinook hops. It was dry-hopped in the fermenter with Willamette and Crystal, and in the bright tank with Kent Golding and Willamette for the floral hop contribution.

750 mL bottle, approx. 1 year old: pours dark honey brown and opaque...thick creamy head sticking to edges and leaving three dimensional lace all around the glass. The Crystal hops are still strong in the aroma, gooey, bright and piney. Copious amounts of bitterness coat the tongue with orange rinds, caramel, and biscuity malts accompanying. Carbonation is fairly soft and nicely complements the lingering sweetness and the slightly astringent bitterness. Pretty good beer, but several of their other anniversary ESBs have been better...

Tried at alesmith. Lots of bitterness. Some oxidized hops. Amber color. Slightly cloudy. Some yeasty chunks. Leans dry.

Sampled from 750 ml bottle during Dark Lord Day ’09, at table 4. Pours a semi-clear dark orange/brown colored brew with a thin off-white head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing that stays with the glass. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, a good balance of flowery and citrus zest hops, a touch of dark berry character. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a extra mild bitterness along with flavors of multi-grain biscuit malt, floral and citrus zest with a hint of pine. Finish has a dry bitterness with some caramel malt and citrus aftertaste.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing! Pours a hazy dark reddish-amber with a small bubbly off-white head. Sweet and crisp aroma of malt, dark fruits, currants, wood. Crisp taste of malt, pine hops, grass, grapefruit, just a bit on the bitter side. Lingering crisp sharpness. Very tasty.

Sample from a 750ml bottle shared by WeeHeavySD@AleSmith’s tasting bar: Color is orangish brown with a small with small tan head. Nose is sweet and quite nice. Flavor is sweet and citrusy, lightly bitter, maybe a little sour in the finish and kinda dry. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle pour dark brown, slight red hue, and an off-white head. Aromas of light citrus, caramel malts, and floral hops. Flavor is slightly sweet with caramel malts, orange and lemon zest, some light hops at the end. Overall good representation.

Bottle acquired via trade with chicagodri...THANKS PAUL!!! Nice rusty copper pour with a creamy eggshell head that diminishes into a 1/4 inch ring around the inside of the glass. This one isn’t overly aromatic but what rises from the glass is enjoyable; citrus, caramel, and toffee. Flavor is mostly malt, with just enough hop bitterness to balance it out. A bit watery. Not bad!!!
