Commercial Description:
This celebratory wheat ale, similar in strength to a barley wine, was brewed simply with pilsner and wheat malts, boiled extra long to reach it’s high starting gravity of 27 degrees plato, and then aged for four months. The result is a copper-hued ale with nearly three pounds of hops per barrel, an intense malt character, and a warm alcohol finish. Cheers! Served in a Snifter glass.

This strong wheat based barleywine was very interesting and pretty drinkable but only one. Due to its 9+ percent alcohol you could really taste the alcohol which overwelmed some of the more interesting character of the beer.

Draught snifter at the Clybourn location, June 26 2007. A huge overflowing light tan head tops the dark, translucent copper body, lasting and forming thick filmy lacing when it finally subsides....big hoppy aroma, woody-piney resinous character is dominant, caramel sweetness shows up after a bit, and bready malts are eventually distinguishable, though alcohol is not....the body is extremely sweet, though a sour and meatallic note shows up late accompanied by wheat-bread tartness....vanilla and caramel overwhelm at first, but the finishing bitterness eventually dominates, creating a fairly harsh but syrupy outcome....interesting, doesn’t entirely work for me but not bad I guess.

Brown/amber with a medium sized head. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar and orange rind. Taste is warming with a richness of dried fruits, almost burnt caramel and honey. I loved the types of hops used.

A growler from Goose Island? Ooh, ooh, have to try this one... Sampled at the RBSG ’07 Grand Tasting room. Pours a clear amber brew with a thin creamy off-white head that dissolves to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of toffee, sweetened wheat, citrus pdeel and a touch of dark berries. Taste is full bodied, sweet with some wheat dryness to the tongue. Finish is sweet with a rough whiskey alcoholic feel. There is even a slight yeast aftertaste too. Nice.

Amber colored without any head. Aroma is a bit thin but has some sweet caramel like notes. The flavor is very alcoholic with some hops and wheat. Very gritty.

RBSG 2007. The beer pours to a copper brassy body with a creamy white head. The aroma is wheaty and alcoholic. Wheaties. The flavor is tart wheat, rich sweet wheat, light chocolate. Balanced and delicate. The palate is rich, sweet, tart. Moderately bodied.
