May 3, 2008 Big thanks to drewbeerme for opening this extremely rare beer at DLD. I’m glad to have tried it. Pours a light yellow with a slight haze and a white soapy head. Nose is a little skunky. Lightly sweet grain and hay. The flavors were about the same with almost no detection of smoke. It would have liked to see that great GI smoke, but not bad for a helles.

Apr 30, 2008 Never in a kajillion years did I imagine I’d say such a thing, but, "Thanks, <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=19069>drewbeerme." This is my 100th rating from the Goose Island Beer Company.....er, maybe. (Someone who actually knows the area needs to clean this up.) But for today, it’s #100! Good pour, a pale straw body with a fluffy white head. It had a sweet aroma of grains and honey complemented by a very light smokiness. More Helles than Smoked Beer, the flavor pretty well reflected the aroma. An additional hit of smoke made for some dryness in the finish. Apr 29, 2008 750 bottle shared by drewbeerme at DL day. Thanks so much! probably won’t see this again. Pours a golden straw color. I get honey in the aroma, as well as some sweet malt, not much smoke here. Taste is very grainey, like the smell of a brew day, a touch of honey, and maybe a hint of smoke, taste is delicate and reserved, never really revealing itself. Nice high carbonation.

Apr 27, 2008 750ml bottle. shared by drewbeerme at dlday. thanks!..... pours a golden yellow brown with a decent creamy white head..... aroma of grassiness and very light on the smoke. flavors didn’t stray too far from the aroma. more of that earthy grassiness and not as much smoke as one would like.

Apr 27, 2008 750ml bottle. pours a light golden or straw color with white creamy head. the aroma was initially a bit skunky but that faded as i drank it. a grainy, hay, and lightly smoked. flavor is pretty much the same, very clean and smooth finish and it better as i drank. this really minded me of Aecht Schlenkerla Helles Lagerbier but this was more smokey and had a fuller mouth feel. i wish i could get this by the litre at goose.
