pantanap (746), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2008 on tap at GI Clybourn....dark cola brown pour with medium brown edges and a wispy off-white head....an abundance of bourbon and toffee in the nose. generally sweet druits and malts....for only aging in the barrel for 4 months, this one has a lot of BA flavors. significat bourbon almost suffocating the resemblence of the underlying base beer. semi-hot and boozy followthrough. caramel throughout and more dark fruits. i generally enjoyed this one.
JPDIPSO (4217), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Jun 30, 2008 Lightly hazed mahogany color with a small small bubbled off-white head. Scents of bourbon, oak, light vanilla and medicinal undertones in the scents. Start is sweet with lots of malt goodness. Alcohol, bourbon and medicine break in and disrupt things a bit in the middle and into the finish. Fairly hot and a bit too much alcohol in the flavors distract. Walt (2268), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 13, 2008 Pour is lightly hazed ruby mahogany with a thin almost nonexistent head...smell has some wood to it and some vanilla but lots of alcohol...taste is sweet and caramelly for a second, then sitcky chewy vanilla bourbon sweet with a woody bitterness finishing it out...the wood really adds a character that doesn’t belong for this style... dm9831 (572), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 9, 2008 pours very deep brown, no head. whiff od bourbon and some weird sweetness i couldn’t put my finger on. i got some bitterness and warmth from the bourbon, and that sweetness was there too. there was also something sour in the finish. i’m glad i tried this doppelbock, because i am not aq fan of the stle, but this was a bit better than i expected. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA Sep 26, 2007 Tap @ GI- Dark garnett color, sjmall ring of head around the outside. Nose is mushroom, cherry, a bit of salt and cigar tobacco. Bourbon is strong, very strong. Vanilla and crystal malts blend well together, finish is strong bourbon and vvanilla.
