| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2009 (Bottled, 2008 vintage) Almost black with practically no head. Strong aroma of oaky tannins, syrupy-sweet malt, and hints of alcohol presence. Thick-syrupy-malty flavor with salty licorice, tannins and oak barrel. Thick, syrupy and viscous palate, like drinking port, with no carbonation. A beer with great ageing potential, but when this young, you’ll be overwhelmed by syrupy sugar. Pitch Black with almost no head. Roasted malt aroma with notes of bourbon, oak, chocolate. Very sweet and lasting taste, roasted malt, toffee, bourbon, oak. Very nice even though the alcohol is a bit more present than i would like. rosenbergh (870), Helsinki, Finland

Dark almost black colour with small white head. Dark roasted malts, chocolate and some alcohol in aroma. Quite fascinating flavour with weak coffee, chocolate, sweetness, alcohol and vanilla. Somewhat liqueur-like. FatPhil (3467), Espoo, Finland

Jet black, no head even when poured from a height. Big sweet vanilla aroma - clearly bourbon barrel aged. Soft sweet smooth sticky palate, but with a gentle tingle of carbonation. Vanilla sweet taste is now joined with a really rich roast - burnt, which in context comes over as a lovely dark chocolate. The alcohol is relatively constrained, but definitely there. Finish is again more of the vanilla and sweet roast, with a slightly ashy and stuffy feel to the burntness. Perhaps the best beer I’ve had from the US, even topping 10/50. Black in colour, no head (this was a leftover, don’t know if it had any). Aroma is very sweet, liquorice, whiskey, soy sauce. Flavour is very sweet, bourbon, vanilla, some liquorice, soy sauce, bit of chocolate. Too sweet for my taste, but glad to have had the chance to try this. Thanks Craig/Alex! thelizard (28), Canton, Ohio, USA

Standard stout aroma. Taste was 110% chocolate. Thick as hell, and just wonderful. Practically a dessert. Skeegle (479), Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 1/5 | 17/20 | Jul 16, 2009 Wow holy crap was this thing thick as hell. Honestly I like my heavy beers to burn and churn the flavors into the palate and I felt that this one had so much to offer in terms of flavor complexity but not the harshness to fully bloom all of them. Probably the maltiest beer ever, copious amounts of sugared split wheat and heavy chocolate/espresso on the after swallow. Thick thick thick, a true motor oil beer if ever there was one. Great beer, deserved of its world-rating because of what it is and how well it does everything BIGgly, but I would never be able to drink more than one of these pups. So glad I got to try it.
