garmonbozia (225), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Mar 3, 2009 Bottle thanks to Sprinkle Color was pitch black. smell was of course bourbon, chocolate and molasses. Thick mouthfeel with alcohol burning sensation. Very nice on a cold day indeed. jahmokie (14), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2009 the color is black with hints of chocolate brown. the nose is that of subtle smoke, dark chocolate, vanilla beans, and toasted nuts. the palate has tons of chocolate malt, thick mouthfeel, and some residual alcohol burn. a delicious example of an aged, flavored imperial stout which will only improve with age. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Mar 1, 2009 bottle poured a super black color with a thin wisp of brown head and a still appearance. aroma is hearty, molasses, brown sugar, burnt barrel, rich bourbon, vanilla, and toasted coconut. mouth feel is super thick and the carbonation fairly low. the flavor is initially crushing with some undeniable alcohol heat. then emerges thick chocolate malt, lots of sweetness, charred barrel, bourbon burn, and some bitterness. perfect setting sitting back sipping this by the fire watching the snow pile up outside. nramsburg (200), New York, New York, USA Mar 1, 2009 On tap at the Ginger Man in NYC:
It’s hard not to begin gushing about this one right off the bat, but I’ll begin with a quick description:
Pours to a a deep dark black with a seriously hot aroma. The bourbon’s here from the get-go. Smoke, caramel, chocolate and a bit of deep vanilla. Lots
On the palate it’s smokey, deep, complex and, as you might guess, pretty bourbon-y.
This is one hell of a beer. Give it a try.
BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2009 Updated: Oct 31, 2009TAP: pours jet black, nose is rich, smokey, bourbon, a little caramel. Taste is similar to the aroma, and its awesome. Fantastic beer - one of the best all-time! skmikeg (70), Poway, California, USA Feb 27, 2009 Updated: Sep 9, 2009Pour a pitch black with a small head which disappers over time. nice aroma of bourbon, coffee, and choclate. intial flavor is that of a fine bourbon, with chocolate and coffee notes. mouthfeel is oily and sweet. the bourbon flavor in this beer really makes a unique beer that is full of flavor. this is a craft beer and whiskey drinkers best friend. overall. a excellent beer. GlenVargas (120), El Paso, Texas, USA Feb 26, 2009 After first spotting the Bourbon County Stout on ratebeer, I had to wait almost a year before I got my hands on one (and I even went to the Goose Island brewery in Chicago--it was out that day!). Well, when I finally drank this highly-anticipated beer, it was one of those rare occasions when all good things in life converge and the soul feels at peace. Whatever, I was feeling in love that night, so I had goo-goo eyes for everything, but I can honestly say that this beer was fantastic. The bourbon smell and taste really hold up, and you can’t argue with 13%. Hell, I can’t argue with anything about this beer. Tops! Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Feb 26, 2009 Thanks to ghawener. Drank it at El Flor for New Years Eve. Wow. Talk about a potent brew. Take it easy and slowly with this one. More like a port wine than a stout. Extremely sweet, caramel, not very smoky or peaty. Yes is more like a dessert wine.
