Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

This was recommended to me because of my love of stouts. It looked great to the pour, although not much of a head. Sweet tones with coffee and alcohol permeate. From start to finish overpowered by a licorice and alcohol. small hints of coffee and chocolate are completely overpowered by the pungent licorice flavor. dissapointed from start to finish. If you love licorice maybe a different experience.

330 mL. Pours pitch black with a dark brown small head. Aromas of whiskey, vodka, oak, dark chocolate, vanilla, cocoa. Taste upfront is super creamy like a chocolate milkshake and then turns very alcoholic like the aftertaste from a shot of vodka. Alcohol is extremely prominent in this beer- lots of warming. Velvety, oily mouthfeel. Overall very creamy and roasty but very alcoholic and overpowering.

Flaske.

Black. Flat. Very sweet. Alcohol is unpleasantly prominent. All the flavors associated with impy stouts are present and accounted for, but buried by booze and sugar. Wouldn’t want to drink it again.

Bottle (35 cl) from Systembolaget. Black with a smal fizzy brown head. Strong whiskey aroma with milk chocolate, alcohol, and some tar. Medium bodied with quite smooth carbonation. Well balanced, but too alcoholic and too much whiskey.

Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil in Brooklyn. S*** m*****f*****s this s*** is f***ing good. If stupid annoyances like my job and reality didn’t get in the way, I would probably sit by the fire every night in my robe drinking this beer, smoking a fine Cuban, and watching the great comedic masterpieces of legendary actor Adam Sandler. In reality, at least I can drink this excellent stout every now and then. Pours black with a small brown head. Incredible aroma of coffee, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and sweet malt. Flavor is malty with molasses, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and of course a strong bourbon finish. Thick and oily as hell. One of the best there is, plain and simple.

Bottle, Rainhall Drinks, Barnoldswick. Probably the strongest beer I’ve tasted thus far; opened for the superbowl. Looked almost like tar as it poured....black like the steelers helmets., with a fading tan head. Aroma was bourbon, glace cherry, booze. Big vanilla notes in the flavour which is complex and inextricably permeated by a heavy woody bourbon presence. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malts and some dark fruit try to jostle for position in there. Warming, and a great late night sipper to linger over. Quality stuff.
