wingsfan (7), , Kansas, USA does not count Jan 17, 2009 The low viscosity, overdue for a change motor oil pour is the perfect indication of the flavor to come. Dark molasses, and malt blend with chocolate, vanilla, caramel with hints of cherry and coffee. Then a perfect following of oak and bourbon letting the 13% ABV peak out. Wonderfully bold and complex example of what bourbon aging can do when balanced properly. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 17, 2009 A fantastic beer. Pours out a thick black color with a smaller brown head. aroma is huge on bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, with a hint of vanilla. Flavor has a lot of bourbon in it with notes of smoke and vanilla with a big malt finish. Alcohol is well hidden. jgb1971 (1), dayton, Ohio, USA does not count Jan 16, 2009 2008 12oz bottle. no head and a dark brown n black pour with Zero head. Alcohol aroma burns deep with bourbon and burnt cherries. Think and creamy mouthfell with good carbonation. 13% is heaven on this one. Love it lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Jan 15, 2009 2007 vintage. Pours deep brown-black with absolutely no head. Bold bourbon aroma right off the bat, with vanilla, caramel, and dark chocolate all coming through. Flavor is more of the same bourbon, chocolate, caramel, smoked malt, and a nice added note of coffee. Alcohol is hidden nicely. Flavor is very strong and sweet, like a bourbon with chocolate and coffee added. Delicious. tilldeath (72), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jan 15, 2009 Updated: Oct 6, 2009Wow what a beer, heavy on the alochol but nicely hidden. Has a very up front nose and taste that assults the senses, but the mellows out a bit and give way to a pleasing vanilla woody finish. need a few years to age to fully appreciate it. Too strong fresh, a sipper for sure. scoobysnak (249), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jan 15, 2009 Black and looks like motor oil. Initially not all that intense but as you swallow the vanilla/ bourbon begins to hit. Very coffee and dark roasted notes as well. screigh (253), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 15, 2009 Can’t say much more than anyone else. Pours black. No head. Strong aroma of coco, malt and bourbon. Flavor hits you intensely and then mellows. Starts sharp with bourbon and vanilla and then mellows into a dark roast. You can taste and even smell the alcohol. Not as oily as I would have liked. It doesn’t coat the glass like a Dark Lord. Nice! nefarious (202), Clarkston, Michigan, USA Jan 14, 2009 WOW 100! I was thinking about what I was gonna do for one hundred, I was in Oliver T’s and I saw this. I have been wanting to try it for a long while so perfect! Absolute tar like pour. Huge aroma of cherries, slight vanilla and bourbon. The flavor is amazing. its so thick on the tounge. Cherries and vanilla up front and then sweet coconut and awesome notes of the bourbon. The finish is where the malts and toffee rear their head and a touch of bitterness. Wonderfuly balanced. The alcohol is there especially witht the hint of bourbon to help it along. This is special and I am damn proud to have had it for my hundrenth. Cheers ratebeerians!
