Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Extremely expensive 4 pack of bottles. Pours very black but with red highlights to it, smells strongly of bourbon and dark chocolate. The flavor has some very nice chocolate and coffee notes to it and the mouthfeel is pretty creamy, but honestly this beer is far too "hot" for me at this stage. I set the other three bottles to cellar and very much look forward to drinking and re-rating probably around christmas of 09.

bottle. pours a viscous black with minimal head. Aroma is dominated by bourbon and chocolate. Insanely smooth mouth feel. Strong flavor of roasted chocolate, warm coffee, and sweet bourbon. This is one very full beer and a hell of a sipper. All around a killer BA stout.

Pretty awesome. This must be the darkest beer I’ve ever poured. This beer takes extreme beers to a much higher level. An amazing strength of flavors. Considerable amount of alcohol warmth.

Bottle, $5.99. This was my treat on vacation in Ojai. Appears jet black, thick, and with little head. Aroma features rich oak, grape felly, Muscat, and an overriding fruit-candy sweetness. Palate is full-bodied and creamy, finishing long long long! Primary flavor notes maintain dark fruit, bourbon, and licorice. Certainly not your everyday Impy Stout experience! Overall, this is a real after dinner sipper. It is extraordinarily powerful, in both flavor and alcohol. I find myself done after 8 ounces.

2007/12oz. Deep, mirror black. sheen, no head even after a 12" pour. The night had me whimpering before this, but it was an incredible, memorable nightcap. Bourbon on nose, Bourbon taste. Fresh and incredible. Deep chocolate, espresso and hot. Unbelievably good. So much bourbon and so much taste. Not balanced but why would you want it to be? Extreme in the perfect direction, I’m enchanted.

On tap at the Ginger Man in nyc. Was a great beer that knocked me on my @$$ at the end of the night, still actually could taste the bourbon flavor the next morning.
