brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 3, 2009 Very stout, very imperial. The alcohol is right up front and this beer tasted a little too much like bourbon and a not quite enough like stout. It is good, and complex, but as such, I’m not really enthralled by it.
Bottle from Ledger Liquors Berkeley. jmikolich (405), Athens, Ohio, USA Jan 3, 2009 12oz bottle, 2005 vintage from 08/16/2005, nose is HUGE pour is nice and black only letting light in on the edge, but the taste is hot alcoholic and smoke, there is some redemption here though, vanilla and oak like a good bourbon.. nice but just too much for me... And man, its still packs a punch dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Jan 2, 2009 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep, inky black with a tan head that fades to a ring. Rich aroma of bourbon, sweet malt, molasses, wood, and alcohol. Intense taste, of bourbon, wood, malt, dark fruits, molasses, an alcohol bite, and some chocolate at the end. Lingering bourbon and wood flavors. Very rich and delicious. ghawener (952), San Salvador, El Salvador Jan 2, 2009 bottle: 2008 vintage. Second of 09 after a great new year tasting. this one has character, potent, whisky, wood, smokey. drank with rcasta and ramenen. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Dec 31, 2008 2008 vintage on December 31, 2008. Well, before its aroma attacked me from an arms length my first impression was how much this resembled dirty oil. Thats a good sign. Its small, perfectly shaded head could only be improved by being a *little* larger. But I’m still scoring its appearance a 5. Now, back to its aroma. This sucker is potent. It makes the whole room glisten in aromatic nirvana the moment you pop the cap. Its smell... like you opened a bottle of bourbon. It has awesome alcoholic fumes, heavy enough to really grab you by the heart and pull you down into its grave of tasty dreams. Sweet, sticky, and oh so warm. Something in this almost reminds me of a triple bock... but its so much better. Simply amazing. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bottle. 2008 Vintage. Black beer with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Bourbon and chocolate aroma over rich malt. Rich malt flavor with bourbon, light roast, vanilla, and ccaramel. Fuller bodied. Malt and brown sugar lingers with bourbon and vanilla. Very nice, Complex and nicely balanced. Alcohol present and lingers in a comfortable sipping beer way. Gar4016 (24), , Iowa, USA Dec 30, 2008 This was a nice sipper for me. Pours almost black with head that dissipates quickly. This seems thick and leaves a thin layer of itself on the glass wherever it’s been. Smells like.... hmmmm.... Bourbon.... lots of it, roasted malts, vanilla, some cherry and chocolate. Tastes very yummy, starts with Bourbon, very strong and somewhat alcoholic. Flavor continues complex at mid palate with various notes of chocolate, some coffee, roasted malt, a general wood feel. Ends with a good stout roastiness that lingers in your mouth. Overall the bourbon is very prominent but doesnt overpower the complexities in the rest of the stout. This will probably cellar very well! dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 30, 2008 2007 12 ounce bottle from riversideAK. Thanks! Pours a ruby tinted dark brown with almost no head. Aroma is mostly straight bourbon with some bitter hoppy notes. Taste is bourbon, chocolate (tootsie rolls by the end of the bottle), vanilla and subtle dark fruits. Full bodied. Alcohol is hidden remarkably well, much to my detriment. This is a damn good beer. Well done.
