Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

12 oz. bottle shared with Nick and DuffmanSW. Virtually no head. This stuff is viscous like bubbling burnt motor oil. The surface kind of quivers. Amazing nose of chocolate, bourbon, oak, alcohol and toffee. Flavor is oaky vanilla, burnt fruit, dark chocolate, and warm alcohol with lingering hints of caramel and fudge. Very port-like. Smooth on the tongue, sticky and cough syrup thick. Captivating, one of my new favorite beers. UPDATE: Over time I’ve realized that I need to take a couple points away because the palate is really just too thick and oily. Still fantastic, but the honeymoon is over.

Bottle from Utobeer. Black, thin tan head. Spicy oaky, thick tannic oily Bourbon aroma. Not quite as thick as I expected. Didnt blow me away in the way I expected. Bourbon on aroma. Its just hollow in the mouth. Quite disappointed actually. Decent Bourbon but just dies. Oddly disappointing, but Phil l thinks that I may have had a bad bottle. Didnt taste off, but the body just disappeared.

Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom for this very nice beer. Vintage 2006 enjoyed December 2008. It is pitch black and it has practically no head. The aroma has notes of vanilla, chocolate, oak and bourbon, it is very well balanced. The flavour has sweetness and a slightly roasted bitterness, notes of chocolate, vanilla, oak, cocoa, caramel, light dark fruit, licorice and bourbon. The alcohol is well hidden, and the body is full, and it is a smooth and harmonic stout.

An awesome beer on tap at the Malt House in Madison, another Ive been waiting a while to try. Pours a thick thick black colour with a very little brown head. We are talking motor oil thick. On the nose it is strong of oak, smoke, chocolate, burned coffee beans and toast. Taste is rich, incredibly flavourful with notes of all things previously listed. A pleasent treat with a wicked ABV, i thought it was 13% actually. One of the best stouts ive had in a while. 5

Bottle. Pours deep black and viscous. Motor oil with a thin brown head. Simply the most intimating beer I have ever seen. Aroma is coffee and rich chocolate. Surprisingly light on the palate but with tons of flavor. Coffee stands out, but certainly fruit notes as well. 13% alcohol completely hidden in flavor but I definitely felt the effects. A truly impressive beer.

[Bottled] Pitch black. Very brief head. Vinous aroma. Loads of oak, vanilla and some sweet berry. Thick and oily palate. Strong alco-feel. Pretty sweetish with fruity notes. Tar and licorice. Extremely many flavours.

The pour is black with a dark brown head. The aroma is rich in the smell of whiskey, chocolate, coffee, some vanilla and caramel. Thee taste taste is out of this world, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, a little smokey and a woody or bourbon/whiskey flavor.
