Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Bottle. 2008 Vintage. Black beer with ruby highlights and a small tan head. Bourbon and chocolate aroma over rich malt. Rich malt flavor with bourbon, light roast, vanilla, and ccaramel. Fuller bodied. Malt and brown sugar lingers with bourbon and vanilla. Very nice, Complex and nicely balanced. Alcohol present and lingers in a comfortable sipping beer way.

This was a nice sipper for me. Pours almost black with head that dissipates quickly. This seems thick and leaves a thin layer of itself on the glass wherever it’s been. Smells like.... hmmmm.... Bourbon.... lots of it, roasted malts, vanilla, some cherry and chocolate. Tastes very yummy, starts with Bourbon, very strong and somewhat alcoholic. Flavor continues complex at mid palate with various notes of chocolate, some coffee, roasted malt, a general wood feel. Ends with a good stout roastiness that lingers in your mouth. Overall the bourbon is very prominent but doesnt overpower the complexities in the rest of the stout. This will probably cellar very well!

2007 12 ounce bottle from riversideAK. Thanks! Pours a ruby tinted dark brown with almost no head. Aroma is mostly straight bourbon with some bitter hoppy notes. Taste is bourbon, chocolate (tootsie rolls by the end of the bottle), vanilla and subtle dark fruits. Full bodied. Alcohol is hidden remarkably well, much to my detriment. This is a damn good beer. Well done.

(12oz Bottle) An outright awesome beer! Pours near black and syrupy w/ a thin brown head. Aromas of vanilla and bourbon abound w/ notes of bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a wonderfully melded combination of bourbon, mocha, toasted malt and alcohol. The silky - I’m trying to avoid oily - mouthfeel is countered by a slight alcohol warming. Finishes surprisingly drier than expected. In all, a very rousing beer w/ a perfect balance of malt and hops. The bourbon is completely complimentary despite its initial prominence. I absolutely love this beer in a nice brandy glass slightly below room temperature.

This has just become my favorite beer. The aroma is fantastic. Has an aroma of coffee an bourbon with a sweetness. The flavor is great with bourbon, brown sugar, oak, chocolate, and coffee. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy almost too thick. Very little head but leaves a coating on the glass. Its a beer to be enjoyed sipping by a fire on a cold night.

Wow this is a fantastic beer. The aroma is great, with hints of coffee and strong aromas of bourbon. The appearance is of deep black, with almost zero visible head. The palate is oily and thick, almost chewy. The flavor is very strong with vanilla and coffee and some chocolate, excellent boubon flavor. If you do not like bourbon I wouldn’t recommend this beer, but even if you kind of like bourbon this beer is a must. Better than dessert!

My friends were telling me about this beer at a bar when we noticed that they had it. So i gave it a try and man is this beer amazing. The bourbon finish does it all for me since i love bourbon. And it leaves a creamy aftertaste that sticks with you for a while. I would recommend trying this beer for sure! great dessert beer!

Mother of God is this beer awesome. The lingering aftertaste of the bourbon is amazing. Extremely flavorful. It does have more flavor in one sip than in other entire cases of beer. Had it in a 12 oz bottle at the Goose Island brewpub
