Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Pours charcoal black with a 1 finger beer bottle brown head that fades pretty quickly. Aroma is beyond huge, oak, bourbon, burnt sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate over coconut, theres more but suffice it so say that there is enough complexity there to keep you busy sniffing for a while. Flavor is just as huge, and better than the aroma. Chocolate, coconut, espresso, vanilla, a little oak, char, tons of caramel and toffee, pralines. Finish is really clean for such a big, sweet beer. There are no offputting lingering weird notes that you find in alot of big beers. Chocolate, bitter and floral hops, rye bread, and bourbon comes in pretty suddenly at the end. A great beer for this cold winter night. Come to think of it the best beer Ihave had in a long time.

Thanks to Gillard for the share. I mourned this one when I was done. Cola brown with bourbon, alcohol, coconut, maple, depth, and wood. Flavor is same with sugar and molasses, too. Perfect yellow lacing, and amazing flavor depth. Lots of secrets to share. Astounding stout.

Poured a deep dark brown with a small brown head with nice lacing. Aroma is incredible combinatio of rich dark malts, caramel, oak, and bourbon, which you can seemingly can smell from miles away. Flavor is equally impressive, caramel malts, vanilla, a little bit of dark fruit, smoke all with a hint of bourbon. but the bourbon is not overpowering though, just complimentary. Full mouthfeel that leads to a nice warming finish. A top notch beer

bottle, 10000 mile motor oil color, head is slight and tan, vinous, dried fruit nose, flavor of bourbon whiskey, intense, thick dark chocolate, white pepper, alcohol and sugar, finish is very even handed and makes this very hard to put down

12 oz bottle. Aroma is strong and malt dominated for sure, heavy smoky bourbon, sweet potatoe, molasses and minor alcohol… tickles the nostrils with every whiff. Very dark rust colored cream head on the pour that disappears, but a small, dime sized ring of foam remained from the carbonation rising in the center (pretty sweet), highly opaque though not as motor oil-like as others with a deep dark brown-black-burgundy color. Again, very strong flavor, not overly thick (for the style), not perfectly smooth either, and there is a long lingering tingle on the tongue and palate; bourbon is a pretty major player here in the flavor, backed up by a rich mocha, subtle vanilla, tart cherry pie filling, and minor whisky alcohol. This was a big beer with big expectations and for the most part it did not let me down.

jet black. pours like spent oil. only the faintest signs of any head or carbonation. oak, toasty wood, molasses, prunes, bourbon, and vanilla all appear. i swear you can smell this stuff from a few feet away. this is a super rich, multi layered treat. loads of prune and figs stand out. the firm assertive and powerful combination of flavor is sweet and dense, but well hopped.
