jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Jul 27, 2008 i agree with the commercial description completely, other than i thought it was maybe a little undercarbonated. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 12 oz bottle from zinister. Pours a dark black with a small tan head that soon fades to nothing. The aroma is big with bourbon whiskey and dark fruits. The flavor is likewise dominated by bourbon whiskey (close to Old Grand Dad), also filling in the sides are licorice plums, and dates. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is exceptionally long with lingering whiskey. Overall: I’m discovering that I am a big fan of whiskey barrel aged ales, they just sit right with me. unclemike (834), Ft. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 10, 2008 Updated: Apr 10, 2009Updated Rating 4/9/09: 12 oz. bottle - 2007 vintage; 3rd time trying this, thanks to WeeHeavySD for this bottle and chance to revisit; pours thin, jet black with trace dark brown head; 90% bourbon aroma mixed with brunt malt, chocolate; super thin body, boozy, sweet; i’d say it’s official that i don’t really get the appeal here; just another impy that has been way too heavily bourbon-barreled
Original Rating 7/10/08 (3.3 overall) 12 oz. bottle - 2007 vintage; thanks to pepsican for the trade; pours thin and oily black; almost no head; slight chocolate haze around the edges leaving residue on the glass; boozy across the board; drinks sweet and slightly hot; woody vanilla in the flavors; bourbon is overpowering and for me, doesn’t come close to something like KBS; pretty disappointing guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 Updated: Jun 11, 2009the first time i had this beer i must have been aged in a first run bourbon barrel it was over powered with bourbon but since then i have had this beer three times and loved it pours black with big brown head aromas of malts, bourbon and coffe taste like a imperial should smells of all of the same. smooth, heavy mouth feel.A truely great imperial a must have for any stout lover sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 6, 2008 2004 bottle courtesy of Tony @ OTH.
Pours absolute black, nose is liquorish.
Aroma is very roasty with a strong presence of coffee / chocolate malts and this ever presence of light bourbon wood.
An outstanding imperial stout.
