Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Aroma of chocolate and light coffee bourbon and abv. Dark black pour with thick brown head and lace. Huge chocoffee flavor with bourbon tones. Semi sweet malt flavor witha very good bitter finish. Very good abv warmth as well. Rich full bodied palate with excellent carbonation. An excellent beer all round.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 1 July 2008) Black colour with brief, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with vanilla, oak, ashes, liquorice and strong espresso. Malty, roasted taste with notes of liquorice, vanilla, bourbon, espresso, chocolate pudding, cocoa powder and distinct flavours of charred oak wood. Fairly sweet, full body. Very powerfull with fiery alcohol notes coming through. Not really balanced but very tasty. Lovely sipping beer with lots of character.

12 oz bottle from 2007. Looks like syrup and smells like watered-down bourbon and chocolate with hints of oak. Has a delicious malty, mouthfeel. It finishes with a delicious mix of bourbon and malts.

2007 12 oz bottle pours almost black and vey syrupy with a small caramel colored head. Sweet aromas of roasted malts, caramel, and whiskey/bourbon. Tastes of sweet malts, bitter chocolate, hints of toffee. Big thick stout with flavors to match. A perfect example of an imperial stout.

Bottled 101207. Very thick opaque body, small light brown head. Strong bourbon with chocolate and coffee. Brother hated it so it must be good! Almost like syrup, definately worth it. had to be exactly what they were going for, hit the nail on the head!

12oz bottle(’07 bottle)-Pours a dark motor oil with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, and slight chocolate. Taste of this full bodied brew is of chocolate, bourbon, alcohol, coffee, and vanilla. This brew is very well balanced and the bourbon and alcohol mix very well together. Awesome beer.

2007 bottle and bottled on this date - 101207 and thanks to bdigi66 for giving me this bottle. Poured thick and syrupy and a very, very small light brown head that fully lasted, virtually no lacing, opaque, no signs of carbonation, and a black as oil hue. The aroma was vanilla, bourbon, dark malts, wood, oak, roasty, caramel and smoke notes. Nice!! The flavor wood, acidic, licorice, roasty, vanilla, bourbon, dark malts, thick, and a long finish. The mouthfeel was thick, syrupy and an alcohol burn in the back of the throat. Full bodied. Wow what a brew! Delicious, nicely done, nice balance, definitely worthy of a try! Thanks again, bdigi66!!
