Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Draught at MacGregors in Henrietta. Enticing, huge aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Bigtime vanilla and chocolate (or rather cocoa) flavor, with traces of bourbon and coffee and raisins. Burnt, evil bitterness at the finish: ash, hops, alcohol, burnt wood; a touch sour too. The one drawback is that the vanilla from he casks is a bit too overwhelming.

Vintage 2008. Pours black with minimal carbonation and almost no head. Aromas of bittersweet dark chocolate with an under pinning of vanilla. Flavors of chocolate and slight bourbon like one of those cordial liquer candies. An absolutely fantastic beer.

Bottle that was brought back from the states by Craig, I’m not sure whether this was from Craig himself or from Miketd but they’re both great chaps so thanks to you both. This was then consumed in a field at Towersey, Oxfordshire, 29-08-09 Pours shark eye black this stuff is in fact seemingly impenetrable to all forms of light. Thick heavy warm and sticky (and that’s just me after an hour in the dance tent dancing to Shoogenlifty) Yes this is a big beer, powerful, warming rich and creamy. There is vanilla, dark very bitter toffee, molasses, its all in there and with the bourbon barrels imparting their wonderful flavours to this truly marvellous beer it really is a corker. bottle thanks to cavie. poured black with a copper head. when swirled the beer stained the glass brown. aroma was fusel, soy, bourbon, caramel, and dark roast. flavor was bourbon, caramel, dark roast, and alcohol. body was incredibly smooth and slick. very nicely done.

Huge thanks go to drowland for this glory in a bottle. Very dark pour, no light gets through except at the far edges. Dark tan head can be worked up if agitated. Aroma is all of deep, rich chocolate and sweet malts. Alcohol stings the nostrils in the sweetest kind of way. Deep bourbon smell. Taste is absolutely amazing! First it’s sweet with chocolate and cream. Quickly stings the tongue with the higher alcohol content. A large wave of roasted malts hits you after that and the finish is a mix of everything that is good in the world. Fabulous!

This is just an amazing Stout, the most creamy rich dark wonderful mouth feel I’ve ever had. Huge nose, long dry finish. Simple unbelievable.

Oh my god. the aroma on this is fablulous, chocolate, bourbon, a bit of vanilla, apricot and nuts. And then you taste it. Wow. Holy shit is this a beer, i’ve never tasted anything like and probably won’t again until i drink another bottle. It is a bit boozy, but i think it really compliments this beer. I wish i could rate this higher.

This is one very good beer. I tried this a few months ago and forgot I had it. Excellent richness with nice fruity overtones. This is a keeper!!
