| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2006 Pours like thick motor oil (not thin motor oil!). Heavy opaque black color. Tan fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Alcohol in the nose, some roasted malt too. Creamy chocolately body, some licorice and definite woody and oaky notes. Bitter like bittersweet chocolate. Whiskey-like aftertaste. Warming alcohol effect in the throad after the swallow. Smooth for sure, but maybe too much alcohol. This is big big beer that should be used like a brandy: for sipping after a meal. Did I mention there is alcohol a-go-go in this one? Grows on you through the glass. Amazing....THANKS ARIANE AND LO! jgb9348 (2513), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 3, 2007 2007 Bottle: Deep pitch black coloured body with an almost non-existant tan head. Aroma of pure bourbon - the strongest i’ve ever smelt. Raisins, figs, cherries, espresso and milk chocolate all are noticeable in the nose coupled with the ever present vanilla. Full-bodied; Super-strong malty, chocolate and of course, scotchy taste. An amazing vanilla and oaky taste most potent with the bittering characteristics of coffee and pit fruits. Aftertaste shows so much and lasts longer than I could remember for any beer. Overall, a really good and strong imperial stout with plenty of oaky and sweet characteristics. One that should be sampled by all, if possible. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, Illinois on 02-November-2007. GregClow (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2007 Rating #1900! Bottle courtesy of HogTownHarry. Bottled 071406. Pours a ridiculously dark and inky black, with an oil-like body and a large brown head that quickly disappears. Warm - no, make that hot - aroma of bourbon, with background notes of coffee, wood and smoke. Thick-as-hell mouthfeel. Flavour - oh yeah, this is good - lots of vanilla and oak, some molasses, caramel, coffee, chocolate... mmmmm. The booziness gets a little overpowering as it warms up, but it just tastes so damn good. Thanks, Harry. Onward to 2000! OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 2, 2005 12oz bottle dated bottled on 010505 via trade with Duane and Lou18 - Thanks to you both! - Pours black as night and thick with a nice tan foamy head that laces very well. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, some oak, and a bit of smoke. Taste is bourbon, vanilla, buttery oak, dark bitter chocolate, some smoke so complex and so rich and decadant. Palate is silky smooth full bodied and a real case of where the bourbon barrels complimented the brew. 11% alcohol can’t be found. This is fantastic beer and should be in the top 50! I’m glad I finally got to try it! kramer (2482), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 5, 2005 12 oz bottle, via trade w/ Drnk-McDermott. Pours pitch black under a small dark chocolate brown head. Little retention on the head, most likely due to barrel aging. Huge Bourbon nose, dark roasted malt, soy sauce, and some espresso and chocolate peeking thru. Big soy sauce flavor in front, very subtle Bourbon taste, then a pleasing burnt toast and charred oak finish. Warming alcoholic finish, but not over the top. This defines an oily mouthfeel, very full bodied, soft and comforting on the palate. This is one of the best barrel aged beers I’ve had yet. Shows that the "barrel" flavor doesn’t need to overpower the underlying beer. kmweaver (2482), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Trade via Jokes; thanks, Denton!! Pours an inky black with slight head formation and fine-bubbled lacing. The nose is huge; the bourbon aroma is well-balanced by the toastiness of the oak and vanilla; alcohol is somewhat apparent, but still incredibly appetizing. Full, viscous mouthfeel, hitting every corner of the tongue: fine bourbon (with the slightest hints of sour-mash character), sweet vanilla and oak and chocolate and charred malt; and even a salty, bitter edge that brings in one further dimension. Thick, layered palette; bourbon, chocolate, and a toasty character in a medium finish. Very enjoyable. Now to test Greg Hall’s cigar theory... FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Updated: Nov 7, 2006This beer is a pitch black color, with hardly any head created by the gentle pouring of this beer into a tulip glass. The aroma is rich with notes of Bourbon, vanilla, a strong oak character, and woody tannins. The aroma is very appealing with a liquor-like alcohol note to it as well. The taste is quite thick, definitely a dessert, rich malt character that is dominated by the oak contributions; Bourbon, vanillin, and a slight tannic oakiness, and a definite buttery oak note. There are notes of coffee and roast malt here, but the rich buttery oak character dominates the palate. This beer is so rich and full, really a meal in a glass, it took me a while to chew my way through this beer, which was perfect for my last beer of the night.

Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and some cookie. First sip: Like a glass of bourbon and chocolate. Rush of alcohol immediately, but it quiets down nicely so as not to be too overbearing. Flavors of oak, bourbon, chocolate, and a tinge of cherry. Palate is thick and slippery; slides down the gullet beautifully. This is one GOOD beer! Oh holy Lord, this a good, good, goooooood beer!
