Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Very dark brown and oily-looking. Bourbon aroma – sweet charcoal, slight vanilla, prunes and big rich malts. Long charcoal and vanilla palate, with noticeable alcohol. Rich fruit esters lie underneath, resulting in a well-integrated brew – rich, warming, enjoyable.

2009-11-12, bottle at Monk’s Café, Stockholm, vintage 2007, 2 years old, 13% ABV, 9-4-8-4-17=42
Black color; it’s almost flat, with no carbonation, no head. The aroma shows a good mix of Bourbon vanilla, whiskey, roasted malt, paper, cardboard, very light smoke. It has a good body strength; strong chocolate flavor, burning alcohol feeling; welll rich; dark caramel, light vanilla, light smoke.

2007-05-23, vintage 2006, 1 year old, 11% ABV, 8-5-9-5-18=45
Black oil, thin head. Intense aroma, very sweet, of vanilla, oak, roasted malt, tar, leather. Full mouthfeel, thick, oily, sweet, malty, with a very nice roasted malt line, some liquorice, cookies, vanilla, dark chocolate. Strong final, with a clear presence of the roasted malt, sugars and vanilla, salty dark chocolate 99% cocoa; toffee and rubharb; the alcohol starts warming the mouth

Bought for 10$ at New Beer Distributors, NY, it’s a great beer to celebrate Milan victory in the Champions League tonight!

Bottle from Utobeer. Black, thin tan head. Spicy oaky, thick tannic oily Bourbon aroma. Not quite as thick as I expected. Didnt blow me away in the way I expected. Bourbon on aroma. Its just hollow in the mouth. Quite disappointed actually. Decent Bourbon but just dies. Oddly disappointing, but Phil l thinks that I may have had a bad bottle. Didnt taste off, but the body just disappeared.

Black very strong in alcohol and smooth on the palate with a little dryness in a crisp warming coffee roast finish.

Bottled, alc. 11 % (vintage 2005)
Pitch black, no head. Vintage nose: raisins, vanilla, oak, tarry smokey wood, dark malts. Sweetish, a bit sticky. Vanilla, bourbon, licorice, warming! Bourbon in the aftertaste. Barreling is not overused here and is not dominating which is nice. Balanced fireplace stout.
