Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

2007 Pour is a deep dark black with no head at all. Aroma is a fantastic with a strong bourbon with some wood smoke and vanilla. Flavor just tastes dark. Some chocolate, vanilla and wood again show up, with a big bold alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is very heavy and thick. Only a few sips into this and i can already feel a warming presence. Kinda pricy at $5 for a 12oz but this is a beer that must be tried.

2007 bottling. Black with a brown head. Big smell is whiskey vanilla charred wood with blackened malts and smoke. Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Great taste of black malts, whiskey, oak, char, sweet vanilla, everything i love about barrel aged beers. Excellent. 11147

Thin dark brown head of very fine bubbles. Almost no carbonation but who cares with an aroma like this. Spectacular! A light whisky note along with vanilla, milk, oak, alcohol and roasted grains. Color is black. Silky smooth and powerful in the mouth. Big alcohol presence. Loads of chewy malts (very thick), more whisky, oak, vanilla and burnt grains. Complex aroma and flavor. Finish is creamy and smooth. Thick and coats the mouth. Nice alcohol warming as it goes down. A GREAT imperial stout that reminds me of Weyerbacher Heresy. A BIG thanks to Drnk_McDermott for this jem.

Bottle. Nose-whisky. Taste-roasted coconut, bourbon, grahm crackers, roasted marshmallows. Lots of smoke and roast. Another excellent beer. If you have the means, I highly recommend you pick this up.

Pours a deep dark brown color. Small tan head head that lasted throughout. Aromas of bourbon and wood. Flavor was a lot of bourbon, hints of smoke, chocolate. Full bodied and creamy. Tasted more bourbon than beer. WOW, this is a flavorful beer!!

Vintage 2007: Just got my hands on some. This is awesome. Thick jet black with a foamy brown head. Bourbon, chocolate, coffee, caramel malt in the nose. The aroma was so pleasing that I lingered quite awhile there. The body was rich and robust, slightly oily and smooth and so very satisfying. The flavor was well worth the wait and lived up to the aroma with strong Bourbon, coffee, and chocolate notes that caressed the tongue and titilated the palate. This was ready for drinking as is but holds such promise for cellaring. My rating numbers are for this 2007 batch.

Poured black with a brown head that disappeared in a flash. The nose was distillery, bourbon, vanilla, some coffee, prunes. Thick and viscous palate. Flavor was intense. Alcohol. Malts cut the edge just a tad. A nice sipping beer on a cold winter night.

Bottle from NPDEMPSE. Pours with the viscosity of overused motor oil, thick and syrupy. No real head formation to speak of and no lacing. Aroma is great! Molasses, hints of vanilla, a little alcohol. Thick and coating mouthfeel. Sweet initially with roasted grain bitterness gaining strength slowly. Bourbon notes with vanilla being predominant. Hearty alcohol presence warms the gullet nicely. Well done.
