Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Bottle as Bourbon County Brand Stout. Pitch black body with a creamy longlasting light brown head. Lots of bourbon in aroma with roasted malt in front. Notes of oak, vanilla, prunes, tobacco and caramel. Smooth and creamy body. Wow. The bourbon is absolutely in front in flavour with a definate alcoholic kick. then comes the sweet roasted malt, caramel and ripe fruit. Great complex brew!

Bottle: Immense black pour with a small brown head. Nose is complex with bourbon, vanilla, and smokiness. Taste is warming with bourbon notes, roasted malt/chocolate malt, and vanilla. Very smooth and silky, yet warm and cunning. Praise to both pantanap and badbeer for sending this in trade!

Bottle I got from someone, I dont even remember who (I Think it was brandon (notalush) in secret santa) Thanks anyway, whoever you are! This is 08/05 release, so this is working on a little more than a year. So I have had many bourbon beers, and this one is slightly disappointing to me. Sure, its got the huge bourbon flavor and finish, but it doesnt have the nice balance and its so overwhelming flavors of bourbon that it is almost sickening to my stomach. Nose has some vanilla, chocolate, and coffee, but a large amount of alcohol. Taste is similar, with a huge burning sensation from the alcohol. I hear this beer is 20 dollars for 4, which is 5 dollars a whack, which it is not worth at all. This would be ok, if it wasnt so hot. I wanted to like this one, I really did, but I almost had trouble finishing it. Not really pleasing at all to me.

A nice stout. Black body with a small diminishing tan head. Bready malt aroma with hints of raisin and bourbon. Flavour is raisin, licorice vanilla with a nice bourbon note. Finish is smokey and dry with more bourbon. Alcohol seeps through at the end but this is still a crafty stout.

Bottle, 2008. Pours near black with a thin tan head. Lots of bourbon sweetness in the aroma. Secondary notes of chocolate and roast. The flavor starts with a heavy hit of bourbon and vanilla sweetness, which yields to roasted malt, coffee, and burnt wood. Slightly over the top, but definitely something I’d seek out again in the future.
