Looks oily. Gentle swirling leavs some sticky brown/amber legs on the side of my glass. Beautiful nose of vanilla, charred oak, toffee, malt, wet campfire smoke, dark melting chocolate, Door County cherries, raisins and alcohol. Damn. Moderate carbonation on the palate, but still quite rich and sticky. Quite silky and lush. Flavor: rich malt gives way to a nice pleasant dry hoppy finish. Along the way we get oak, vanilla, blackstrap molasses, chocolate chip cookie dough. A hint of wine-like alcohol. Bourbon-lke flavors begin to develop after a while. Rich chocolate and brewed coffee goodness. One truly amazing creation. nickd717 (1384), Palo Alto, California, USA

S*** m*****f*****s this s*** is f***ing good. If stupid annoyances like my job and reality didn’t get in the way, I would probably sit by the fire every night in my robe drinking this beer, smoking a fine Cuban, and watching the great comedic masterpieces of legendary actor Adam Sandler.
In reality, at least I can drink this excellent stout every now and then. Pours black with a small brown head. Incredible aroma of coffee, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and sweet malt. Flavor is malty with molasses, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, and of course a strong bourbon finish. Thick and oily as hell. One of the best there is, plain and simple. brewblackhole (1384), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

Poured very dark with little or no head. Coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma, the first sip was absolute bliss. This is what a whiskey barreled brew should taste like. Creamy smooth mouthfeel, wonderful chocolate raisin taste, with a sexy velvety bourbon aftertaste. The 2nd best new beer I’ve tasted this year
Rerate-this was one of my initial ratings ,my opinion has grown for this since then DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

This beer glubs glubs out of the bottle.Thick and black.Looks like 20 weight.Huge aromas of bourbon, chocolate and coffee and some smokiness.Flavors swirling around of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and a hint of smoke. The alcohol was hidden well. The beer had more flavor be pronounced as it warmed. Pours like motor oil to the deepest black with a caramel-bourbon shaded head. Aromas of brisket, caramel apples, campfire smoke and the inside of the bourbon bottle fill the room. The flavors are rich and intense, of guatemalan coffee, turtle cake, sticky caramel rolls and many full swallows of bourbon. The most viscous, chewy beer i know of offers no reprieve from its boozy attack and may have the capacity to wound the tongues of the gods. This beer just drowns you in itself. Very unkind. Strong roasted coffee notes with noticeable bourbon and burnt wood in the aroma. Tons of bitterness in this beer to go along with lots of smokey roasted malt and and bourbon flavors. Lots of warming alcohol as this one goes down but not so much as to be unpleasant. Notes of vanilla as well. Excellent stuff. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Very dark brown pour. Thin, fizzy brown head, dissipates fast into a small thin ring. Rich aroma of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol, roasted malt, some faint dark fruit.
Rich vanilla laden chocolate followed quickly by a slightly off-balanced amount of bourbony alcohol. Further inspection yields bourbon flavored fruit, some faint roasted coffee. I want to say it is unbalanced... but then again, it is good. Nicked the ’palate’ a bit for that. But regardless, its really easy to get over the bourbon. This thing is really chewy, has a good overall sweetness + some roasted malts to balance it out a bit. I like it.
Jan 2005 or late 2004, sampled around August 2006. Thicker mouthfeel. Less overall bourbon presence, but its still there. Sweeter with dark raisiny rum, and a slight alcohol edge. AgentSteve (1377), SF Bay Area, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2007 Poured a deep brown with thin, tight, caramel colored head. Nose is complex with chocolate, earth, and alcohol. Flavor is equally complex, but the bourbon stands out stronger than in the nose, and the earthy complexities are very strong. Very good brew.
