Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Bottle thanks to CMUBEERMAN. Pours dirty car oil, tan head: looks really dirty and oily. Aroma is anise, caramel, chocolate, coffee, roasted nuts, pine. Flavor the same with bourbon and the body is very oily. Nice coffee/vanilla/roasted nuts finish. Intense but I still prefer Founders Kentucky Breakfast Bourbon Aged Stout (what a beer!)

Thanks to Rudolf for bringin this to SD and sharing while I was out there (yes, I am still trying to catch up on the ratings from weeks ago.) This had good aroma, chocolatey, nugat-ty, and carmel undertones. This was a pleasure to drink. I only wish I didn’t have cheetos on the palate when I tried it. lol. But serious, it had a thick good bodied mouthfeel.

Big thanks to biggreen (BA) and KAggie97 for bringing this to the 2nd Houston Tasting. Dark as night pour with a gorgeous mocha head. Beautiful nose of bourbon and dark pitted fruits. Wow...the taste on this is incredible. Big heat, but the bourbon, smoke, chocolate and vanilla tastes are just amazing. I love this beer.

A pitch black colored beer, with a small beige head. Is disappears quickly. The aroma of wood, with dark fruits, whisky/bourbon. The taste of chocolate, wood with fruits and dark fruits. There is alcohol and notes of whisky/borbon. There are also flavors of vanilla. The aftertaste is bitter, warm with some wood with notes of sweet.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs and Liquor. I wasn’t exactly aware of how strong this beer was until I got a whiff of it, Nose is this big robust and rich aroma of whiskey and alcohol including black roast malt and pure sugar. This stout is as black as can be and resembles used motor oil while for one quick moment there is a sizzling sound and small head that then vanishes instantly. My brief description on flavor is simple and to the point: strong presence of alcohol along with whiskey, wood, rye, dark chocolate, sugar cane and black licorice. Such a potent and powerful stout I’m so glad they sent some to the west coast.

Rating 500. Bottles shared at acertain’s gathering.

Pours a deep black with red-brown highlights. The aroma offers surprisingly rich notes of sweet raisin in addition to the expected bourbon, oak, and chocolate. The flavor leads with dark fruit and vanilla bourbon, with French roast coffee coming in underneath and penetrating sweetness throughout. I’m left with a long-lingering, alcoholic, vanilla extract fniish. Unfortunately, the mouthfeel, while certainly full, l is very hot on the tongue; this is my biggest criticism of the beer.

This is certainly a high-end beer. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I recall enjoying the Full Sail Black Gold, but it was certainly superb and I am very glad to have had the chance to try it. Thank you, acertain!

2007 bottle sampled May 2009. Still definitely boozadelic. Packs a heavy punch and lots of heat, but it’s pretty nice. But so boozy......

Thanks to Gillard for the share. I mourned this one when I was done. Cola brown with bourbon, alcohol, coconut, maple, depth, and wood. Flavor is same with sugar and molasses, too. Perfect yellow lacing, and amazing flavor depth. Lots of secrets to share. Astounding stout.

(Tap) Wow... where to start with this one. Pours a thick black color with a viscous consistency. Aroma of whiskey and lots of dark malts. Vanilla and coffee in the nose as well. Taste is heavy on bourbon. Underlying wood notes, with chocolate, coffee and caramelized sugars. The alcohol is pretty evident in here too. Definitely a beer to sip... I could drink one glass of this over the course of several hours and be perfectly content.
