Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Dark pour with small brown head. Big nose of bourbon, wood and dried fruit. Flavor is rich with roast, vanilla, dried prunes, hints of chocolate and alcohol. Body is heavy with big hit of heat from the 13%. Very complex and very smooth.

Vintage 2007, thanks to Badbeer for this. Pours a thick, sludgy, black/dark brown color. Very thin brown head that hangs out just a little bit. I love that smell. Smells of bourbon and vanilla. Not as much dark fruitiness as other Bourbon BA brews but still a little bit. Tastes of bourbon and alcohol up front. Tastes of chocolate and some dark fruits towards the finish. The finish itself is a little overwhelmed by alcohol. Super thick and viscose, just how a BA brew should be. Could use a bit more carbonation but its got a little so it’s all good.

So, we finally cracked one of these. After Dark Lord last night, it would take a lot to live up to it. But this does. Wonderful nose, better than DL. Chocolate, coffee, English toffee, molasses, a touch of bourbon. The taste is similar to the nose. Lots of bourbon in the taste, along with the coffee and chocolate. But bourbon is ruler here. Can’t wait to see how this mellows out in a year or so. Deep black/brown with a thin foam head. Huge mouthfeel, thick. An awesome stout, I’d like to try the unbourbon stout, though.

The aroma is a complex mixture of bourbon, roasted and chocolate malts, and dark fruit. The beer pours a thick rich black with a tan head that is quickly diminishing. The flavor is robust with the taste of dark fruit and malt coming through with a bourbon and vanilla finish on the palate.

Crushed with Jakebra. Fuckin intense. Another completely exhausting beer to drink. Plenty of bourbon, and warmness, and a special dose of awesomeness added in. Might make you speak gibberish after each sip…which adds to awesomeness.

12oz bottle. 2007. Dark black pour, very little head. Vanilla, woody aroma. Lots of vanilla in the flavor as well, bourbon and oak as well, chocolate is big as well. Very nice, outstanding.

I have to make a disclaimer that I am a Bourbon drinker....This one is thanks to JCW. Pours out a very nice dark black color with a small lacing dark brown head. Awesome aroma of Bourbon with some notes of roasted malt. Taste was very good of bourbon, roasted malts some vanilla and maybe some smoke malt flavors. Wonderfully complex, will have to have with a cigar (as the bottle suggests) next time
