Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Bottle. Small light bubbly brown head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Thick black color with a reddish glow. Aroma was heavy vinous notes of wood, vanilla, liquorish, roasted malt, dried fruit, almost Port Wine like, chocolate and some mild bitter notes. Very full bodied with a soft carbonation and thick heavy filling alcoholic texture. Heavy sweet flavor with some counter bitterness. Lingering vinous dried fruity and English liquorish finish. Wow what an Imp. Stout.

1/30/06 from the bottle: Poured with the consistency of motor oil. The dark tan head appeared like a resurrection from the black liquid and stayed for quite a while. The aroma is massive ... an heavily coated in alcohol. Be ready for this one ... it’s got a massive presence, not unlike a whiskey with a smoky charcoal essence. After 4 months away in Kuwait with no alcohol, me thinks I’m too much a girlie man for this. Wow.

(Bottled, 2008 vintage) Almost black with practically no head. Strong aroma of oaky tannins, syrupy-sweet malt, and hints of alcohol presence. Thick-syrupy-malty flavor with salty licorice, tannins and oak barrel. Thick, syrupy and viscous palate, like drinking port, with no carbonation. A beer with great ageing potential, but when this young, you’ll be overwhelmed by syrupy sugar.

Bottle via trade with The Epeeist. Thanks a lot. Pours pitch black with a creamy brown head & lacings. This IS everything: wood, roast, coffee, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, smooth, oily & phat. Super complex & super delicious. Long end. Amazing. . .

Bottle. What can i say a fantastic stout that i adore. Sweet chocolate black body with a tan head. Dark fruit and bourbon dominate this with a big alcohol warming. One of my favorite darkies. On draft 4.4

Opaque black with tan bubbles around the edges. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some bourbon. Chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon taste. Not a bad bourbon aged Imperial, but not exactly one that rocked my world.

Black color with no head. Aroma was an intersting hit of bourbon. Most bourbon beers smell like they’ve been aged in the barrel, but this is more like it had bourbon added to it. The corn profile of the bourbon really comes through. Some vanilla traces from the barrel. The taste keeps up the game and smacks you upfront with straight bourbon. Large malt base with not as many hops as I’d expect. Different than what I was expecting, but tasty.
