| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Appearance...It’s a goddam Imperial stout. Clarity? who gives a shit? Black?...check. Long-lasting tan head?...check.
Aroma...Clean bourbon oak. Lots of vanilla, but nothing is really over-the-top...and I mean that in a positive light. Ever so light presence of the soy-like autolysis, but actually not offensive. There is some dark fruit, but it’s in the background. The chocolate is nice and there is no roast to speak of.
Flavor...This is all about balance. There is really nothing out of place at all. just oh-so-smooth chocolate, vanilla and bourbon in nice tight package.
Palate...Does a beer of this strength get much smoother. Rich creamy body, but never cloying. Just beautiful.
O.I. ..... Quite simply, the finest execution of a 12%+ beer that I have had. Just so smooth and drinkable. Everything in balance, and nothing making my jaw hurt or making me hold back from taking a good haul. If I can’t take a good haul...there’s something wrong.
I just wish I could re-rate all of my other 1002 ratings to be in-line with a beer this good.

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 17, 2009 The scene around the first barrel tapping of this must have been equivelant to the first nugget found at the California gold rush, the first time an equation worked out for a young Einstein, the glimmer of a bulb reflecting off of Edison’s spectacles or the first to witness a strapping green George Herman at a Baltimore boys school yard diamond. You have achieved dark chocolate, black licorice, sherry, dark rum, and sweet cherry wood in the aroma. You have achieved a flavor directly descendant of a brown sugar crusted perfectly smoked and barked sweet pork cracklin. You have achieved a viscosity of richness and superb slick glory. In this beer, Goose Island, you have achieved and you should be proud. Thank You Goose Island. 2008 12oz. cking (1041), North Canton, Ohio, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 17, 2009 2008 Release: Black, lifeless body with s short head and a few spots of lacing, leaves good legs on the glass. Tons of roasted malt aroma with a heavy does of coffee and smooth bourbon. Chewy mouth feel, very filling and creamy. Smooth like a freshly whipped up batch of pudding. Spectacular blend of hearty flavors. Chocolate/fudge, bourbon, smoke, nuts, coffee and a light woodiness. Flavor is amazing and follows the perfect mouth feel respectfully. Top shelf, wish it were available in oHIo.
