Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

This stout is best enjoyed at the Goose Island Brewery restaurant on North Clybourn in Chicago. Of course, it’s probably also best to park on the south side and take the Red Line there. That gives you a chance to ride public transit back to your car and let your body work through of some of the effect of this potent stout!

Unbelievable beer! Thin, dense brown head that lingers. Very well balanced for anything that says Bourbon on it. Well blended flavors. Nothing overpowers anything else. Chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, coffee, woody & malty. Delicious! Ages well, was gifted a 2006 bottle from Bellport at Christmas time, and it was even better than my rating here. they also convinced me to try it with chocolate truffles. Also outstanding! Obviously, this is one of my favorites.

My friends were telling me about this beer at a bar when we noticed that they had it. So i gave it a try and man is this beer amazing. The bourbon finish does it all for me since i love bourbon. And it leaves a creamy aftertaste that sticks with you for a while. I would recommend trying this beer for sure! great dessert beer!

Bottle at Ølbaren shared at Andreasen11 birthday together with RangledeFreak. I had quite high expectations to this one, and they where definitely fulfilled! It pours pitch black with a minimal light brown head. The aroma is lovely, loaded with roasted malt, even more chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and unfortunately a little to much alcohol. Taking a sip of this masterpiece is fantastic. Its full-bodied, perfectly balanced and indeed a powerful and intense mouthful! The complexity is outstanding with strong notes of roasted malt, wood, caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits, liquorice and a very smooth bourbon.
But this is not it... it finishes absolutely astonishing with a fantastic smooth after taste including notes of wood, dark fruits, dark chocolate and bourbon. (Btw. don’t drink a Black Hole after this one, drink it before..)

Bottle. Fast fading head, maybe the appearance should be reduced one more grade as the lack of head makes it looks a bit less appealing. The colour is pitch black. Aroma rich with bourbon, wood, tar, fruits,VANILLA and unfortunatly a bid too much alcohol. The flavour is chocolate, coffee, vanilla, cherries, bourbon, licorice and dark fruit, this beer is perfectly balanced, so intense and satisfying to drink. However the beer is so overwhelming, it is almost too much to drink a bottle alone. Shared with Anker and Andreassen11.
