Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

12 oz. 2007 vintage. Pitch black with a thick and creamy two-finger head that settles into a soapy halo. Aroma is a freshly crumbled Baby Ruth in a just-emptied bourbon glass. Flavor starts with espresso, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and oak, then adds some charry wood, tobacco, and alcohol for the slightly smoky and balanced finish. Heavy body is velvety smooth and coats your teeth and tongue nicely. Tingly, warming alcohol afterwards. What a dessert!

12 oz. bottle. Kudos to both Acknud & BBB63 for sending me a bottle of this magic elixer. Pours a deep black with a very small brown head. Nose is semi sweet molasses & alcohol. A subtle brew it is not. Mouthfeel is smooth, but heavy & warm. Almost like brandy or port. Taste is a complex mix of molasses, Semi sweet chocolate, a ton of malt, dark wet earth & of coarse bourbon. Makers Mark, Jack Daniels, doesn’t matter, take your pick. The liquid version of walking down a country road at midnight.

350 ml bottle from archer liquors. Black with no head. Good strong bourbon, vanilla, and oak aroma. The taste is not as complex as I usually like from a beer like this, but, that said, the taste is an amazing rich dark chocolate and bourbon flavor with a pleasant bitterness and a lingering oakiness. Very good.

This is a big beer. I let it warm up just a bit before cracking it open and ensured I used a nice wide snifter. One bottle can be shared easily with 2 people.

is black. I put it up to the bright Florida sunshine on a fall day and nodda, nothing can cut thru this one. Not much carbonation and the head is rather wimpy. That being said what little head that does build tends to hand around. In the lacing department... None. It’s so thick and oily that I don’t think lacing has a prayer with this one. S: I have never smelled anything another than true Bourbon that smells this much like Bourbon. Huge barrelled Bourbon aroma with deep earthy vanilla aromas. Coffee lies beneath with hints of toffee, molassess, almonds, and dark Belgian chocolate. T: Man I have a buddy that spends half his net worth to sample the best small batch Bourbon known to man and thanks to him I have been able to sample them as well. Let me tell you this one must have been made with the barrels from the finest batch of Bourbon ever made. Tons of Flavor with the big boozy Bourbon flavor smacking you right in the mouth. Hell this one may be spiked with Bourbon. Hints of oak, vanilla, and coffee come thru as well. M: Nice and thick this is one full bodied brew. D: It’s a one and done beer for me. This is one to be sipped not slammed

Pours charcoal black with a 1 finger beer bottle brown head that fades pretty quickly. Aroma is beyond huge, oak, bourbon, burnt sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate over coconut, theres more but suffice it so say that there is enough complexity there to keep you busy sniffing for a while. Flavor is just as huge, and better than the aroma. Chocolate, coconut, espresso, vanilla, a little oak, char, tons of caramel and toffee, pralines. Finish is really clean for such a big, sweet beer. There are no offputting lingering weird notes that you find in alot of big beers. Chocolate, bitter and floral hops, rye bread, and bourbon comes in pretty suddenly at the end. A great beer for this cold winter night. Come to think of it the best beer Ihave had in a long time.

In bottle thanks zinster. The beer poured a deep black with a thick brown head. If you can imagine pouring motor oil into a glass and toping it with brown whipped cream then you might have some idea of how this beer looked. The nose is rich and deep smelling of burnt wood, roasted malts and bitter sweet chocolate. The taste was out of this world with a richness and flavor that I have found in no other beer. The taste of burnt malts, caramelized sugar, toasted oak, chocolate and bourbon dominate the beer. The beer finished with a bourbon sweetness and a hint of bitter chocolate. the mouth feel was round and oily. A great beer, one I have been looking forward to, thanks mike.
