Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

2009-11-12, bottle at Monk’s Café, Stockholm, vintage 2007, 2 years old, 13% ABV, 9-4-8-4-17=42
Black color; it’s almost flat, with no carbonation, no head. The aroma shows a good mix of Bourbon vanilla, whiskey, roasted malt, paper, cardboard, very light smoke. It has a good body strength; strong chocolate flavor, burning alcohol feeling; welll rich; dark caramel, light vanilla, light smoke.

2007-05-23, vintage 2006, 1 year old, 11% ABV, 8-5-9-5-18=45
Black oil, thin head. Intense aroma, very sweet, of vanilla, oak, roasted malt, tar, leather. Full mouthfeel, thick, oily, sweet, malty, with a very nice roasted malt line, some liquorice, cookies, vanilla, dark chocolate. Strong final, with a clear presence of the roasted malt, sugars and vanilla, salty dark chocolate 99% cocoa; toffee and rubharb; the alcohol starts warming the mouth

Bought for 10$ at New Beer Distributors, NY, it’s a great beer to celebrate Milan victory in the Champions League tonight!

I have to make a disclaimer that I am a Bourbon drinker....This one is thanks to JCW. Pours out a very nice dark black color with a small lacing dark brown head. Awesome aroma of Bourbon with some notes of roasted malt. Taste was very good of bourbon, roasted malts some vanilla and maybe some smoke malt flavors. Wonderfully complex, will have to have with a cigar (as the bottle suggests) next time

bottle. WOW! I will not take the time to describe what this one looks like, ’cause it looks like a stout. A Big, Bold Imperial Stout! Aroma and flavors of bourbon, vanilla, hints of chocolate & coffee. This one reminded me of Weyerbacher Heresey, but this one had a full bodied mouthfeel, where Heresey was a bit thin on the finish. There is a lot going on in this brew. The bourbon is a predominant flavor here, but does not overpower all that is going on . In the past, I have not been overly impressed with the relatively expensive brews, ( this one was $4.75 per 12 oz. bottle ) but this Goose is good. Damn Good! If you are a stout lover, as I’ve become, be sure to pick this one up/

This is the good stuff. I would describe it as stout extract you could take a tablespoon of this stuff mix it with a little Budweiser and have a good stout. Alone it is the stuff beer legends are made of. It pours so thick almost syrup like and I thought it flat at first but the carbonation was there it just took time for it to push through the viscous liquid. Its black and has a 1.5”dark brown head that resembles polyurethane foam that you fill cracks around your house with except this foam is perfectly flat. The aromas of bourbon, burnt malt, anise and dark fruit. The sip tasted of strong alcohol and sweet roasted malt leading to bitter coffee then to a treacle finish. I couldn’t sip this beer it would take me 2 days to finish. I gulped it down it and enjoyed the rush of alcohol and flavors. Just writing this rating has got me jonesing for more.

From the bottle, pours thick and black like 10W-40 motor oil, with a very small tan foamy head. Deep and rich aroma of dark malts with a hint of alcohol and a smoothness from the oak barrels. Taste is equally strong and rich, thick malts, some brown sugar/molasses, a bit of bourbon, a hint of alcohol, and a lightly bitter bite in the aftertaste. Thick and incredibly smooth, this is a pretty fantastic beer, though I’d be hard pressed to drink more than two at once.

Bottle from 8/16/2005. I don’t think I poured this one very well; I just got a hint of head, and the bubbles were very short-lived. The aroma: what can I say? Bourbon. Other things are there, but the bourbon dominates everything. It would have been a 9 or 10 had it been better balanced. In the mouth it is rich and creamy; just what I’m looking for in a rich stout. Once it got in my mouth, the other aromas really came out, and the bourbon receded to where it was very balanced. Vanilla and chocolate come to the forefront, still with echos of the bourbon. In my opinion, an amazing stout, and my first 10 for flavor. I wouldn’t want all stouts to taste like this, as it’s really huge and I don’t think I could drink one every day, but it’s amazing. Significant warming finish. Thanks a million, Matt of the Beer Cellar!

Perfect Impy Stout. Aroma is wood, leather and coffee. Pours black with almost no head. Nose is bourbon and a slight bit of molasses. Flavor is an INCREDIBLY smooth taste - with notes of raisins, currants, leather, tannins and just a little coffee. Finish is a nice woody note that begs for more. Sipping this beer is as close to heaven as you can get.

(2005 bottle) Aromas of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and a touch of smoke arise from this glass after the pour. It pours a thick black with just a tiny ring of tan head around the edge of the glass. Smooth creamy mouthfeel, flavors of dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and a touch of bourbon. Slight warming in the chest as this was swallowed. Truly an exceptional beer.
