At least from 1998. This beer simply rocks. Over-the-top chocplate, vanilla, molasses and bourbon flavors. ZThick as 10W30 with a neat deep brown/red hue. This beer will age a well as any beer that I have tried. I first rated this lower due, primarily to the high alcohol taste. But it has dawned on me that this is intended and is not a function of the 11% abv but the bourbon characteristic taken on by hte barrel aging. Anyway, ages ti a forget about dissing this so-called fad. Any process that continues to fortify the unique and overwhelming flavors typically reserved for port wines and single malt scotches is fine with me. jimbowood (983), Athens, Georgia, USA

Never had a beer that stayed w/ you as long as this one. Hangs around w/ a long aftertaste. Bourbon is subtle, not overpowering. Me likey. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Deep black with a fluffed up mocha head. THICK dark chocolate, espresso and bourbon syrup. Great for pancakes! Something like this really could go awry, but it actually comes together impressively.

After trying this multiple additional times my appreciation has become love. It is now one of my favorites. brentfeesh (1041), Gadsden, Alabama, USA

The aroma is rich and inviting with chocolate cake, bourbon, and dried dark fruit (fig and cherry). The flavor that greets you on that first sip is just heaven. Dark Chocolate, port, whiskey, dates/fig, vanilla..Shazam! the only thing keeping this from a 10 is the alcohol burn on the way down. Perfect otherwise. The body is slick, oily syrup. Dessert all the way! Way to go Goose Island MrBunn (1563), Western, Pennsylvania, USA

Wonderful aromas of chocolatey malt, charcoal/smoke and vanilla. Appearance is very dark with a pretty substantial brown head. It’s a darn good stout, too. Malt really dominates the flavor up front. It slowly gives way to a rich chocolate/vanilla bean flavor. It packs a little alcoholic heat towards the end of each sip that is pretty nice for this time of December. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2005 This awesome stout was referred to as “crack” in a recent forum posting by a fellow Ratebeerian because it’s so additive. Truer words have never been spoken. Cradled in a 12 oz brown bottle purchased from Armanetti’s, Libertyville, IL, this black hued stout sports intoxicating complex aromas of prune, bourbon, vanilla, sweet roasted malt and peppery alcohol. A very small tan head and soft carbonation were noted. Medium bodied with a creamy, smooth texture that starts with complex flavors of dried fruit (raisin and prune), caramel, and light sweet malt flavors. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness and expresso flavor. Definite alcoholic warmth and mouth-burn (11% ABV) were also noted. A luscious stout that is best savored alone (no food). A giant imperial stout, one of the best that I’ve tried thus far. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 1, 2007 Bottle dated 070306. Pours black, totally opaque; oily. Decent tan head quickly recedes to a ring around the glass. The aroma is intense: day-old campfire, chicory, chocolate, vanilla, raisins, oak. Beautiful, complex flavor. Sweeter than I anticipated, with a warm, smooth bourbon finish that sticks on your teeth and gums till you lick it off. Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Velvety and a bit syrupy. Tremendous beer.
