Incredible aromas of coffee, plums, prunes, licorice, molasses, vanilla, madeira, bananas... WOW... Oily, lactose enduced mouthfeel... Heavy bodied, nicely effervescent for an impy... Perfect balance between bitter and sweet. Added flavors of molasses, hickory, semi-bitter chocolate with a nice licorice finish. Reminds me of an old triple bock i once taste and Kuhnhenn’s impy... very good! nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Jet black with a caramel brown head. Smells like bourbon, oak, alcohol, brown sugar, dark fruit, anise (no chocolate or coffee in there for me, a surprise). Nice flavor, lots of coffee and chocolate, vinous, almost has a chocolate liqour taste to it. Complex but not. Hugely thick mouthfeel, kind of like hersey’s chocolate syrup, but I like that right now... Overall, super dry, super rich, and lots of chocolate flavor. Bourbon in the aroma is nice, but the alcohol is a little too much. Still, I love stouts, and I love bourbon, so I have trouble giving this bad ratings. Great carbonation for a barrel aged beer too. I like it, not everyday, but it’s worth having. Rerate... interesting beer. Lots of malt in the aroma. I still like this beer. Great for/with dessert. hopslovin (181), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA

The flavor is like walking through a very old forest, where light and shadows plays, sounds of birds and bugs, aromas of earth, trees and brush and decay demand attention. It is hard to focus on everything at once, and several of the things you sense may on their own be unpleasant, but taking in all at once, concentrating on the whole and not the parts, is an experience not soon to be forgotten. I am happy to have experienced it, but also will not desire it again, at least for a very long time. (The time has come to re-rate. My first was 3.8, and either I was crazy, got a bad bottle, or have just changed. I love this one, and have put up a few. Huge malted milk ball flavor with hints of bourbon. Alcohol well hid, but with pleasing warmth. Great aftertaste, like what is left in your mouth after a fantastic chocolate malted mild shake.) Homer321 (127), Rockledge, Florida, USA
