Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Bottle. Thanks to friends. This is one of the best stouts I have had in a long time. The aroma of vanilla and smoke is out of this world.

Vintage 2008. Pours black with minimal carbonation and almost no head. Aromas of bittersweet dark chocolate with an under pinning of vanilla. Flavors of chocolate and slight bourbon like one of those cordial liquer candies. An absolutely fantastic beer.

2008 bottle via Plumpjack Beer of the Month Club. Simply outstanding beer. I busted this one out to celebrate the wonderful CHANGE that we experienced today as Chicago’s Barack Obama became the 44th President of the USA!!!! cya W. pours a deep black with a thin tan head. huge bourbon notes seep out of the bottle... some vanilla and chocolate on the nose as well. huge chewy body with bourbon, dark fruit and chocolate caramel on top of the palate. very soft on the sides. nice and warming throughout the mouth. the finish is extraordinary with a huge bourbon oak feeling and a nice warming alcohol touch. this is one of the best beers I’ve had to date.... A+++

2007/12oz. Deep, mirror black. sheen, no head even after a 12" pour. The night had me whimpering before this, but it was an incredible, memorable nightcap. Bourbon on nose, Bourbon taste. Fresh and incredible. Deep chocolate, espresso and hot. Unbelievably good. So much bourbon and so much taste. Not balanced but why would you want it to be? Extreme in the perfect direction, I’m enchanted.

(12oz Bottle) An outright awesome beer! Pours near black and syrupy w/ a thin brown head. Aromas of vanilla and bourbon abound w/ notes of bittersweet chocolate and coffee. Flavor is a wonderfully melded combination of bourbon, mocha, toasted malt and alcohol. The silky - I’m trying to avoid oily - mouthfeel is countered by a slight alcohol warming. Finishes surprisingly drier than expected. In all, a very rousing beer w/ a perfect balance of malt and hops. The bourbon is completely complimentary despite its initial prominence. I absolutely love this beer in a nice brandy glass slightly below room temperature.

Sept 08 rerate. Wow now that I know beer this one is amazing. I liked it years ago now it is heaven. The chocolate, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, toffee nose is nothing compared to the incredible bomb that goes off on your tongue. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, syrup, vanilla, wood, and more just burst in your mouth and leave a finish that is minutes long. Yes this is a world class beer.
