Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

Sept 08 rerate. Wow now that I know beer this one is amazing. I liked it years ago now it is heaven. The chocolate, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, toffee nose is nothing compared to the incredible bomb that goes off on your tongue. Sweet chocolate, bourbon, syrup, vanilla, wood, and more just burst in your mouth and leave a finish that is minutes long. Yes this is a world class beer.

Wow, everything I had hoped for. The first sniff is a little boozy, but softens as it warms. I can’t say anything that anyone else hasn’t said already, but this was wonderful.

Bottle:Black pour. Fizzy, short lived head. Leaves a full ring, with stick lace. Airy aroma. Lots of bourbon, dark chocolate, vanilla. Creamy, thick texture. Full mouthfeel with soft carbonation. This has the best mouthfeel,of any Imperial I have had. It coats but is soft as silk. Very malty, vinous flavors. Lots of chocolate, roast, and dark fruit, characters mixed with whiskey notes.Finishes soft and round with big malts, light whiskey. Lingering roasty and wood dries it out nicely. Very, very, tasty. Excellent job bottling this at Goose. Update:2007 bottle drank on 6/8/09. A prime example of a balanced Stout aged in a bourbon barrel adding whiskey to the already complex vinous, vanilla, chocolate flavors. Barely hot for the alcohol content. A experience in a bottle.

Beer pours a dark black brown color which is opaque and light does not pass. Head is rich light brown and fine, yet persistent. Nose is mildly sweet with hints of mocha, dark chocolate and faint smoke. Taste is a rich blend of chocolate, bourbon, smoke and coffee. Mouthfeel is full, lush and gorgeous. Aftertaste is warming and beautiful. Possibly the best beer I’ve ever had..

2006 Version: The aroma in this is primarily filled with bourbon, more so than I remember in last years version. There is some chocolate, oak and even a hint of vanilla hidden in there. The flavour is very strongly bourbon based and silky notes of vanilla, oka, and chocolate tumble in. There is a bit of an alcoholic bite at the end as well. I think last years version was a bit better as this is so alcoholic. It’s still a well crafted and tasty beer, however. 2005 Version: Number 2 of the 5.0 beers I have had. damn it was a great day! Loads of chocolate, wood aged flavor, sweet malts, vanilla, more chocolate, bourbon and oak. This is an imperial stout in all its glory!
