Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

2006 Version: The aroma in this is primarily filled with bourbon, more so than I remember in last years version. There is some chocolate, oak and even a hint of vanilla hidden in there. The flavour is very strongly bourbon based and silky notes of vanilla, oka, and chocolate tumble in. There is a bit of an alcoholic bite at the end as well. I think last years version was a bit better as this is so alcoholic. It’s still a well crafted and tasty beer, however. 2005 Version: Number 2 of the 5.0 beers I have had. damn it was a great day! Loads of chocolate, wood aged flavor, sweet malts, vanilla, more chocolate, bourbon and oak. This is an imperial stout in all its glory!

a phenomenal brew (I am a huge fan of the barell aging fad). Poured out syrup like, nice and thick. Pitch black with a small tanish head. Aroma full of so much goodness, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak, and some fruits. After 20 minutes of nosing the beer, the first sip was a delight. Everything in the aroma but multiplied. A personal favorite.

Tiramusu, bourbon, coconut, chocolate, vanilla, caramel, peanut brittle, cake batter, fudge, and gramam crackers in the complex aroma. Black color. Really rich and full body, with a huge and brilliant mouth experience. Chocolate, fudge cake, with hints of caramel, along with an enormous barrel contribution, which gives hints of coconut, vanilla and oak. Wow. So rich and tasty.

draft (cask) Wrigleyville Chicago. I was excited to see that this beer was on cask at the brewpub. A lucky find I think! Poured (drawn) a dark rick black with a tan head. Intense sweet aroma of heavy malt, roasted, bourbon, and chocolate. Inintial sweet roasted chocolate, licorice, malty, taste that rolled slowly across the palate to reveal an oaky bourbon flavor with a nice dose of hops to even things out. Great mouthfeel, very very nice beer! It’s really too bad we cannot get Goose Island products here in Tennessee. One of my favorite beers I have tasted! I would like to taste it bottled...I think the cask aging is a boost to the flavor. If you live in Chicago rush over to the brewery to try this beer!

WOW. Pours jet black with a great foam ring that lasts. Aroma is over the top coffee, sugars, and dried up fruit. Flavor is amazingly alcohol and sweet at the same time. A bit thin, prob because of the 13%, but still WOW!

thanks to hogtownharry for this one! aroma is rich chocolate, molasses, and vanilla. flavour is again, very rich, lots of chocolate, ad vanilla, quite sweet, but in a really nice way. aftertaste is kinda smokey with some coffee and chocolate. nice bitterness in the end, not too much, but just enough. mouthfeel is thick, and oily. just a superb stout.

This beer is so crazy wonderful and intense.. Pours rich and black, with a swirling tan head. Armoa: Dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee roast, booze, dark fruit, black licorice, oak, man what a wonderful nose on this beer. The flavor is potent blend of chocolate, bourbon, striking black patent malt roastiness, coffee, as well as some obvious alcohol heat- this bad boy is a wonderful sipper at 13abv, and ranks up there will all of the world class imperial stouts up there! Who knows what a few years will do to this great creation.. Well done Greg- A home run!!
