Commercial Description:
"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, carmel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it." Brewmaster Greg Hall; IBU’s 60-High Color - Midnight Was 11%, the 2007 and 2008 are listed at 13%.

aroma hits strong with alcohol but mellows out with a nice raisin, plum and date with a strong backnote molasses. Poured a beautiful thick, dark black with a thin dissapating head and little to no lacing. flavor was reminiscent of the aroma with the addition of smoke and vanilla. definitely a great beer with a not so great sticker price

Pours a lasting ring of tan head with some lace and a dark brown body. Looks like a shot of espresso. Aromas of soy sauce, toasted and roasted malt, slight bourbon and vanilla notes. Flavors of toasted, roasted malt, soy sauce, molasses, bourbon, wood. Finish is a little hot, sticky, dry, vanilla coffee, bacon.

Tap. Strong bourbon aroma up front with light chocolate malt. Opaque black color with minimal head. Strong bourbon flavor initially with a milder chocolate malt finish. Nice - bourbon flavor pretty strong.

Completely opaque motor oil pour w/ effervescent caramel head that dissipates quickly, but continues bubbling like a cola, hugely complex aroma w/ vanilla, oak, cognac, butterscotch and chocolate, flavor matches aroma on front end w/ bitterness and booze coating the palate on finish, warming alcohol spreads completely to the back of the throat, massively large mouthfeel

The scene around the first barrel tapping of this must have been equivelant to the first nugget found at the California gold rush, the first time an equation worked out for a young Einstein, the glimmer of a bulb reflecting off of Edison’s spectacles or the first to witness a strapping green George Herman at a Baltimore boys school yard diamond. You have achieved dark chocolate, black licorice, sherry, dark rum, and sweet cherry wood in the aroma. You have achieved a flavor directly descendant of a brown sugar crusted perfectly smoked and barked sweet pork cracklin. You have achieved a viscosity of richness and superb slick glory. In this beer, Goose Island, you have achieved and you should be proud. Thank You Goose Island. 2008 12oz.

2008 Release: Black, lifeless body with s short head and a few spots of lacing, leaves good legs on the glass. Tons of roasted malt aroma with a heavy does of coffee and smooth bourbon. Chewy mouth feel, very filling and creamy. Smooth like a freshly whipped up batch of pudding. Spectacular blend of hearty flavors. Chocolate/fudge, bourbon, smoke, nuts, coffee and a light woodiness. Flavor is amazing and follows the perfect mouth feel respectfully. Top shelf, wish it were available in oHIo.

Vintage 2007... This beer was massive.. Tons of oak and booze....very much a slipping beer. You can really taste the 13% abv... I really want to try a new bottle to see the difference.

Wow. Pours thick and black with a dark brown head. Got it in chicago and i can’t wait to bring some back next time. Lots of coffee, caramel, and toffee flavors, hides the 13% really well I thought. This is by far my favorite stout to date.
