Pours a fecal brown with a yellowish head. This beer looks disgusting, but it makes up for it. Not much carbonation that I noticed. Aroma is of caramel malts, hops, spice, & raisins. This beer was very heavy on the alcohol. Tasty malt flavors. Strong hints of spice and dark fruits. Lingering alcohol bite. Smooth mouthfeel makes this very drinkable.

On tap at GI Clybourn, 9/30 and 10/5. Yuck! Had at "birthing" Tuesday on 9/30. Thought I smelled and tasted a little butter. Had another pint yesterday, and it was all butter - nose, flavor, etc. If you can fight through the butter, there is a nice blend of chocolate, banana, and cloves. This lesser alcohol version seemed appealing - if only it wasn’t so horribly buttery. This defective beer should be dumped by GI.

Bottle acquired via trade with chicagodri; 20th anniversary 750ml. Rusty brown pour with a 1/4 inch copper colored head. This beer smells of typical banana, slight clove presence, and toffee. Flavor is sweet with the 7.7% alcohol more prominent than in 10% ABV brews. Wax topped bottle but the beer doesn’t live up to the packaging.

Draft at Clybourn. Poured a murky brown color with a thin off white head. Lots of diacetyl in the nose ala buttery caramel. There were also whiffs of brown sugar, clove, and banana peel. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with some tart citrus. Tasted of mostly of clove and brown sugar, but there was also some banana, sassafras, a splash of white wine vinegar, and an occasional hint of bacon.

Pours a cloudy brown with a off white head. Heavy banana aroma and some wheat. Very sweet beer, the ripe banana flavor has a lot to do with it. Some nice wheat notes and some clove. Very enjoyable. Worth a try.

GABF 2007. An unclear orange-brown beer with a thn orangey head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of wheat and banana as well as other fruits. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of alcohol, bourbon? and wheaty, leading to a dry wheaty finish. Nice one.

sampled at the San Diego Strong Ale Festival Nov 2008, an event shared with what seemed liked hundreds of ratebeerians and enjoyed mostly through a straw, since my face was a bloody mess of scabs and stitches. this came from ta growler brought by BBB63 Medium amber brown, fruity aroma with hints of wheat. flavor had vanilla banna and a little bit of lemon, very sweet but with a slightly tart finish. very good

Growler from BBB63 at the ’07 SAF. Poured a slightly hazed deep copper color with an off-white head. the pour looks real thick. Dark fruit aroma with some wheaty lemon notes. Light tartness. The flavor was fruity with golden raisins, wheaty notes and sugar.
