Interesting spicy aroma, pepper and more. The body is not so strong, light malt flavor and low bitterness. Quite ordinary. smashteroid (251), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Served cold from tap at Ginger Man NYC. Not a bad Belgian, but I was a bit disappointed. A little too floral, lingering sour mouthfeel. Hibiscus...okay... Glouglouburp (2853), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 5, 2009 In short: A sweet and very floral (perfumy) strange beer. Didn’t work for me.
How: Tap somewhere in NYC (I forget)
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a little off-white ring of foam.
In long: Nose is beyond floral, this was downright perfumy with notes of oranges. Taste is a bit odd (or should I say a bit off). First the beer is very sweet with a flavour of hard candies. Based on my limited knowledge of the hibiscus I didn’t find it tasted particularly like hibiscus, more like a big mix of garden flowers. Fruity notes of oranges and tropical fruits. A bit soapy. A little urinal cake. The beer is somewhat tart and even a little sour and that doesn’t work well in this case. Not my thing. I like normal hoppy beer and beer bars. I don’t like flower beer and salad bars. malrubius (1002), Valley Stream, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2009 On Tap at Ginger Man. Clear copper orange with lasting ring. Herbal yeasty aroma. Sugar plum sweet fruitiness with light body and mild finishing tartness. Yeasty, herbal. Mild all around. Pretty good. DerWeg (762), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Tasted this remarkable concoction at ginger Man NYC. Pretty good integration of forward sweet and floral notes, body is a bit light in the end. Want to try this a bunch of times. CharlesDarwin (1848), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 18, 2009 On tap at the Ginger Man - NYC. Pours a darker, yet very clear even amber, with nice swirl in clean white above. Very minimal floral aroma. Flavor is absolutely unique. Potpourri and lavender galore. A bit spicy, very herbally, and complex from the spices. Yeast, malt, and alcohol flavors are largely obliterated. A little wet and light on fluffy carbonation, which it needs. Ends in some watered down christmas candy. I don’t dig the hibiscus character in this beer. Ceebs25 (237), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 5, 2009 On tap on the Bavarian Lodge. This beer showed good promise all the way through, but left me wanting more. Some light funk, potpourri florals, and tart mixed berries on the aroma. A nice light fluffy white head on the pour, pale orange in color. This one also very light tasting for the abv, almost to a fault, but smooth feeling and well balanced. The flavor notes all tie in well together with some sour funk, a good amount of florals but evidently not all hop variety, and sweet tropical fruit complexities. So a very drinkable and interesting beer, but not quite as exciting as I’d like it to be.
