Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

Bottle: Muddy orange in color with a creamy, sandy head. Thick lacing. Scents of malty sweetness, bready, and some dark fruitiness. Graham crackers? Tastes sweet and citrusy. Dry florals and caramel malt show up soon. The crisp florals are backed nicely by this softening bready and caramel maltiness. Nice. Thanks Hopdog!

12 oz bottle shared by fordest. Awesome flavors of hops and some bitter sweetness too. I liked this IIPA.

12 oz bottle thanks to xmarcnolanx. Pours a clear orange with an average size bubly off white head with some visible carbonation clinging to the side. Aroma of piney hops, sweet malty undertones and a slight bit of breadiness. Full syrupy body with a very dry alcoholic finish. Flavor of bread, alcohol, pine needles and card board. A nice effort but this is DFH 120s little brother, a strong beer but no where near what it could be.

12 oz bottle. Hazy golden orange with decent head. The aromas were very sweet citrus. Candy sugar and some hints of vanilla. Flavor was similar with some sweet on the front and a citrus hoppiness that quickly turned to a decent bitter finish. A pretty tasty DIPA.

Courtesy of fordest. 12 oz bottle shared with fordest and padrefan. Poured a copper-gold color with a small off-while head that lasted only a short while. The aroma was big on pine with just a hint of sweet citrus. The flavor was very hops forward with biter cascade hops dominating, the sweetness hinted at in the aroma never really showed up, this IPA was straightforward with pine and cedar and a bit of grass. The mouthfeel was medium-full and appropriate for the style. The finish was long and biter. Overall: In a night of tasting that featured IPA’s this was a standout. Highly Recommended.

12 oz bottle pours a hazy orange with an inch of off white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, and ripe fruits. Flavor is sweet malt up front with a medium hop bitterness at the end. Not as good as previous vintages IMHO. Not as well balanced as other years.

12 oz. bottle generously given to me by Gregis. 2007 vintage, best before 041208. Pour is clear cheddar cheese [TM] orange, with a big fluffy orangish white head. Beautiful aromas of citrus fruit - very soft and floral. In the background, can also find some grassiness and bitterness. Taste is a reflection of the nose, sweet orange citrus, some grassiness in the middle and a clean hop bitter finish. After taste has a touch of lingering heat, which was the only indication of the size of this one. The sweetness became a bit cloying as I continued to drink this one. Very nice, though the taste didn’t quite live up to the aroma for me. Good solid IIPA, thanks for giving me this one Greg.

This is a very impressive beer. Pours a Golden, amber color with a pillowy white head that sparkles nicely. Smell is really a step above many other IIPA’s that simply consist of a sharp hops smell. This beer has a more sweet, orange citrus aroma that is really nice. Don’t get me wrong, hops is still present but not as much as you would fine in some IIPA’s. The taste is also very interesting it is much sweeter than I expected it to be. The taste is reminiscent of a slightly sour orange, hops still makes a very strong appearance but not overpowerfully like some Imperial’s. Probably the best IIPA I have had thus far.
