Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

This is a very nice double IPA. It poured a burnt orange color. The flavor was of citric hops. I had it with thai food and it was great. The hops smoothly cleared the heat away.

Bottled. Poured a nice mandarin orange color, not much of a head. The aroma is floral and of sweet malt. Now the killer, the Flavor! Whoa...this is outstanding! Very complex. I find a hint of mango, very balanced hops. This is a fantastic DIPA and I wish it was easier to find here in So Cal, I paid bucks for this one bottle.

pours a dark cloudy orange with a one finger off white head. aroma is sweet malt with some orange hops and a little mango. medium body with descent lacing. aroma has a little bread and christmas cookie as well. flavor is of sweet malt, orange, and mango hops with a little carbonation. also has a little cane sugar aroma and flavor as well. little to sweet for me but a very nice bursting with flavor 2ipa. still not better than 3f’s dreadnaught. needs more aroma, head, and lacing for a perfect score. there is a little alcohol aroma as it warms, but pretty well hidden overall. hops comes through a little more as it warms as well.

A killer Double IPA. Not quite as pure and good as Dreadnaught, but about as close as it gets in the Midwest. I’ve had about 6 bottles the past month or two and I am still impressed by the brew. Goose Island, you rock.

Bottle. Pours an awesome looking hazy golden orange color with a huge rocky beige colored head, with some of the best lacing I’ve seen. Aroma is huge citrus, pine, malt, floral. Flavor is sweet, woody herbal pine, grapefruit, oranges, some malt, grass. Palate is full bodied, medium carbonation, sticky, smooth finish. This is some damn good stuff! Worth the $$$$. Elite level.

Pours a ruby amber with minimal head. A beautiful smoky, malty and hoppy nose with an overall essence of molassas. The body is rich and creamy; really quite full. It’s quite malty on the palate with an intense burst of hops. Slightly citrusy; overall quite hoppy. The finish is thick and hoppy. Overall a wonderful double IPA... more than just hops... it’s got some character.

Re-Rate 12/17/2007 12oz bottle 207 vintage. Wonderfully bright, rich pine and citrus hops. Loads and loads of tangerine and apricot. Rich and oily on the palate bursting with fruit. This is one of the fruiter IIPA out there. Still bitter, balanced by caramel and toffee malt. Best drank fresh. And this fresh is outstanding. Original rating 7/4/8/4 - 17 - 4.0 Re-Rate - 8/4/8/4 - 18 - 4.2

Orange/copper body, with an off-white head. Very nice lacing. Inviting, mild citrus (orange and grapefruit) and malt aroma. The flavor, however, threw me off a bit, because it reminded me of DayQuil (you know, the daytime cold relief syrup). I found it difficult to get past that thought, and that’s why my flavor rating is much lower than average for this beer -- sorry. Heavy, yet very smooth mouthfeel. Good carbonation.

slightly hazy orange body with a great white head that leaves great lacing. very floral hop aroma with fruity caramel undertones. bittersweet grapefruit/orange flavor. salted caramel finish. nice warm alcohol. great full bodied smooth creamy mouthfeel. solid very drinkable IIPA. nice but a bit pricey.
