Commercial Description:
Traditionally, there are a lot of rules when it comes to brewing great beer. The fact that American craft brewers have broken those rules to produce some of the world’s finest beers is downright heroic. At Goose Island we live and die by hops, so breaking the rules meant pushing the hop limit to the extreme to create this monster Imperial IPA. We took three of our favorite hops, TETTNANG, SIMCOE, and CASCADE, and balanced their spiciness with tons of malt. Them we went back and dumped in MORE HOPS and more malt until this beer was exploding with flavor...strong enough to wake the dead and filled with more bitterness than a woman scorned. This Imperial IPA is absolutely gigantic, you’ll smell the hops from about a yard away. What will surprise you is how incredibly drinkable it is. Pair it up with the saltiest blue cheese you can find, and go nuts.

Opaque orange color with a small beige head. Aroma of citrus hops and sweet malt. Flavor of citrus hops, oranges, tropical fruits and a hint of alcohol. Tangy finish. Really drinkable for a 2IPA.

Pours hazy gold with fizzy white head. Aroma is fruit, piney/resiny hops, sweet citrus. Long lasting bitter/sweet flavor. Palate is thick and coating. Nice bitter fruity finish. Excellent IIPA.

Hazed pale orange, solid creamy-toned head. Outsized aroma, speaks, maybe screams, from afar, blazing pine and tropical fruit, spanks the nose, then softly tickles. Taste: again, blazing hops, loud and proud, fresh citrus zest, packed with alcoholic punch. Huge texture, big pucker, fat bitterness, graps the lips and drags it around for a spin...very pithy citrus character, abundant hop bitterness. A challenge, but a fun one. A real unique twist on the double IPA, not like many others, and...dangit, I like it!

12 oz bottle. Golden-orange beer with a thick sticky white head. Big hoppy aroma, Simcoe pinyness, strong resiny aroma, some sweet orange and grapefruit behind it. Appealing tropical character in the nose as well. Flavour is incredible, tropical fruit, grapefruit, resinous pine, long lingering bitterness. As the beer warms, a gorgeous spicy flavour starts to come out as well. Quite bitter and resinous through the finish, but still incredibly tasty.

Bottle thanks to Kevin. Wonderful piney aroma with hints of red apple, apricot and lemon rind. Hazy copper with big bubbled head dragging some laze. OK retention. The flavor is fruity with loads of hops balanced by a rather heavy malt backbone. Bitter finish (of course).Viscous texture and a quite fizzy. Nice and hoppy IPA, that would have been much better if it had allowed the wonderful hop profile more room to play with less carbonation and a lighter body.

12 oz bottle. Delicate pink-orange with a balsa colored custard head. Pine needles, granny smith apple, watermelon and lemon drops. Delicious pink grapefruit slathered in honey. Creamy bitterness builds and lingers; citrus remains. Not quite medium body; nice crisp carb. A solid double I’ll be visiting again.

Bottle that’s been "aging" in my fridge for about a year poured into a snifter. Color was a translucent orange-pink color of a gemlike quality, almost like a fire opal. Head quickly diminished but left an thin arc of lacing after I tilted the glass up against my nose for several minutes, absorbing the aroma which I couldn’t get enough of... The aroma started with pinapple, mangoes, passion fruit, stone fruit and tropical flowers before trailing into an alcohol fortified wine, like an apricot brandy, then finishing with faint yeast particles. Flavor was of subdued hops and citrus rind oils, along with some tamarind and apricot, with citrus oils and some alcohol on the finish. Medium body and somewhat oily palate, but overall an absolute pleasure.

Another great double IPA without the overpowering sweetness and sugars. Good orange color with big white head. I get an incredibly complex nose of citrus, caramel, pine, and slight roasted malt tinges. Again a citrus and melon taste gives way to a slight bitterness. No taste of alcohol and at 9+% that’s a feat. Can you tell I like this one. My only complaint is the quick finish. Thanks brewblackhole.
