Drnk_McDermott (1543), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2004 Updated: Nov 28, 2005 Bottled, unlabeled from the brewery, 8 Feb ’04 Hoppy, hoppy bo boppy... no, wait a minute. An amazing and massively hoppy brew. I don’t catch the citrus the others have noticed, but maybe I’ve been through too many beers already. Lighter brown color than normal for an IPA, but that doesn’t belie a big malt profile. That’s all I got from a wild night of tasting at the Goose’s Fulton St. brewery, but I got some bottles as a souvenir, so I can submit another rating later.
Draft at Goose Island, 6/28/04. A massive sock of Simcoe & Cascade hops grabs you by the throat for the entire glass. The 79 IBU’s seem to dedicated to nothing but bitterness. Enjoying this monster is a challenge, but one which I’ll gladly accept.
doubleo (749), San Diego, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 12oz bottle, vintage 2007 from glouglouburp. Been wanting to try this forever, thanks! Pours amber with a medium sized, sudsy white head, good retention, spider web lace. Smells very citrusyand hoppy astringent, best nose I’ve sniffed in a while. Tastes citrusy hoppy, slightly earthy with some of that resiny, astringent hop flavor on the finish. Full body, nice carbonation. JohnnyZ (73), USA Aug 29, 2008 Best double IPA around. On tap very rarely at GI Wrigley. Enjoy. Get it at Binny’s when it comes around. Miver (384), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2008 12 oz 2007 bottle. Poured amber in color with a medium sized white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma mostly of piney and citrus hops, sweet caramel malts. Taste is sweet with caramel malts, followed up with piney, sweet, and light citrus hops. Mouth feel is sticky. Finish is smooth and very drinkable. Very nice. drfabulous (704), Columbia, Missouri, USA Aug 26, 2008 Lots of alcohol and intensity in this Double IPA. You can feel some burn. This beer should be on the level of 90 Minute, but it is overpriced. One of Goose Island’s best, but not something I’ll pay 20 bucks a four pack for. kosko20 (81), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Aug 11, 2008 This is a rather different aroma than expected. I thought I was gonna get a big whiff of hops then who knows what but first smell is grapefruit, lemon and hops. Also some pine and other fruits. Appearance, you know its perfect, copper red with a thick white head. So the flavor is hops and citrus blend. The palate is smooth with a bitter and a touch of alcohol finish that goes very well with everything in this beer. Not exploding with hops but was blended and balanced extremely well with malts.
