pantanap (781), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 27, 2008 tap at GI Clybourn.... very dark brown our with a thin light brown head....aroma of smoked toasted malt, chocolate. can’t seem to detect any hops in the nose....flavors were very smooth. toasted malts and chocolate for the most part. carbonation level and mouthfeel were very nice and further enhanced the beer.
General_Gao (2568), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 1, 2008 Draft at Clybourn. Poured a nearly opaque black. The head was light tan. Attractive aroma of citrusy hops, toffee, and subdued milk chocolate. Medium bodied and slightly sweet up front with a dry, bitter finish. There was a goodly amount of roast in the flavor that was matched well with citrusy hops. There was also some chocolate and a dash of salt. Great stout. hombrepalo (500), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2008 On tap @ GI Wrigleyville. Poured dark but still a bit liquidy transparent. Aroma of roasted barley, coffee, nuts, chocolate. Taste is a bit watery for a stout. Had some nice roasty flavors. A alright stout but I’d prefer a thicker stout style. SkyinBrian (403), Collinsville, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2008 yet another good stout from GI. Slight roastiness with smooth chocolate flavor and nice hoppy finish. Cornfield (4331), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2008 On tap at GI Clybourn: It poured dark (lighting is not the best at the brewpub, so it could have been black or brown) with a bubbly, sustained light brown head. It had soft scents of pine and citrus rind over chocolatey, lightly roasted malt. Those were reflected in the flavor, the chocolate being more pronounced and the hops flavorful but not bitter. Some coffee and the suggestion of smoke were also added to the taste. Pretty decent brew. chicagodri (539), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 17, 2008 Actually a very good stout. Pours a dark brown/black with a tan head. Nice aroma of hops and some chocolate malt. Solid flavor, roasted chocolate, smoked malt, and a lot of hops. Good stuff, I was pleasantly surprised.
