bhensonb (2713), Woodland, California, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle. Dark roasted malt aroma. Near opaque black color with a decent tan head. Rather thin in body with mild carbonation. Flavor is smooth toasted, lightly burnt malt, with coffee and chocolate notes. Seems to be a little hop, but the finish is mildly sweet. Finally some burnt toast comes forth. A good drink.
Pawola22 (31), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 12, 2008 12 oz bottle from HyVee.
Aroma: Same as any stout, really. Malty, chocolate, roasty, mocha. Smooth.
Appearance: Dark, black. Not a lot of carbonation. Smooth. Small and dark, brown head that dissipates moderately and ends up rather lacy.
Flavor: Slightly watered down. Chocolate finish. Sweet and creamy.
Palate: Creamy, smooth, medium to light body. Not a lot of carbonation. Pretty good aftertaste that lingers of chocolate.
Overall: Very drinkable oatmeal stout. Pretty damn smooth and has a great aftertaste. Less taste than I would prefer, but still a solid beer. marcus (908), Sacramento, California, USA Jun 29, 2008 This black ale poured with a short tan head and a chocolate malt aroma. The flavor is chocolate and coffee with a carbonated mouthfeel and a surprisingly bitter finish. The rich flavor makes this a tasty drink. CaptBier (234), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jun 27, 2008 Pours black with standard aroma. Pretty standard flavor but more of that of a porter. Less sweet than I would imagine. ilherps (38), USA Jun 25, 2008 It pours a dirty oil black with a very thin tan head. There are strong aromas of coffee grounds and fresh soil. Flavor is of coffee and a bit of chocolate, with some nice roasted malts also. This is an outstanding, well balanced stout. basewars (31), New York, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle from World Market.
Pours black with small head. Aroma is of oats and coffee, but not very strong. Taste is of coffee and some oat. Flavor isn’t very strong. Not bad, but nothing special.
