stefanberggren (135), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 9, 2004 Wow now this is something special to come from the folks at Goose Island. It remeinds me a lot of Bornem’s Dubble. Really malty and rich with chocolate/cherry flavor. Carbontaion is good, but could be bit more? Opaque like a good scotch ale with all kinds of flavors that dance through the palat. I found this quite nice and the alcohol was present, but now where near obtrusive.
PolakPorter (60), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pleasant yeasty aroma, slightly sweet and quite unique. Taste is all Belgium, sour yeasty goodness, sweet twain towards the finish. I was a little indifferent after my first Pere, the second was very impressive and left me wanting more. Well done, Goose. GAManiac (283), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 24, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a deep clear copper with a small buttery head that lingers a little while leaving a ring and little lacing. The smell is all candied sugar and sweet caramel malts with hints of dark fruits. The taste follows the aroma but is pretty mild in general. The candied sugar and malts are there with some spices in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with good carbonation and sticky sweet. This dubbel was nothing exciting but pretty drinkable. omhper (10438), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 22, 2008 Bottled at Monk’s Café Stockholm. Clear copper, no head. Evident caramelly nose. Sweet with medium-full bodied. Fairly soft with with some apricot, caramelized sugar and glue. Intense, but a bit assaulting with a minty black currant finish. chicagodri (473), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle, 2006 version...don’t know why I waited so long to finally getting around to this one. Probably should have had it earlier since it didn’t seem to age that well. Pours a cloudy light brown, with a never thin head. Fruit and malt nose, dark fruit, raisins, a little citrus. Fairly sweet. Overall decent. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 21, 2008 Pours a cloudy mahogany colour with a large creamy head. Off white colour medium sized, great retention. Lots of sediment floating around. Aroma is semi-sweet, caramel, cherries and ripe apples. Taste is sweet, black cherries, licorice raspberries and possibly current. Tastey beer all around.
