jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Mar 27, 2009 Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of pungent malt, alcohol, pit fruits and a bit of toffee - although not much. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong flavours of malt, yeast and metal run through this one with a light pit fruit sweetness behind. Aftertaste shows nuts, metal and a fairly potent finish, albeit a bit breadie. Overall, not such a great beer - strong as hell and not very balanced. I sampled this half litre on draught at the San Francisco (Airport) location on 21-March-2009. webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA Jan 18, 2009 Updated: Jan 25, 2009im rating this for my own benefit, just to remind myself that i really like this beer, and to definitely try again. cant remember the specifics, but i will give a formal review once i try again. badlizard (2325), Berkeley, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 ON tap at brewery. Dark brown with a fizzy white head. Sweet bread aroma and taste with some almost cinnamon like notes. Decent, but not great in the spectrum of dopplebocks. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Sep 10, 2007 12oz - Wood on the palate at first, yielding to starch. No real hops or depth. OK, but I would pass in the future. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Jan 7, 2007 Dark brown color. White foamy head. Aroma of roasted malt. Not coffee just the smell of grains. (Kinda making me hungry.) Flavor of malt. Finishes with a little coffee and distant bitterness. Not a bad beer, just not an impressive Doppelbock style. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Dec 13, 2006 Clear mahogany body with creamy beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, cherry, caramel, some bubblegum. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, cherry, some raisin, light chocolate. Medium body, light stickiness. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA Dec 15, 2005 RFD Holidaz, Washington DC. A pretty good bock. A solid brown beer that fits right in with Bierschs german beers. Drinkable, and stood up well against most other brewpubs.
